The legislation was voted through by the island’s government and signed into law by its British diplomat governor, John Rankin. It reverses a British Supreme Court ruling last year which legalised marriages for all couples. Bermuda will now restrict them to civil partnerships.

The ruling wasn't the British Supreme Court, it was the Supreme Court of Bermuda (in Hamilton, rather than in London).

There are, needless to say, at least two legal challenges ongoing to the new law.

One of the main effects is likely to be on cruise liners, who are largely Bermuda registered and could conduct marriages at sea. I'm aware that some cruise companies are looking at changing to a more convenient flag of convenience.
