From those people who have no ability to see the irony in what they're doing we get:
GOP Bill Would Slash Diplomatic Security Funds Unless Trump Moves U.S. Embassy To Jerusalem | The Huffington Post

Three Republican senators — including two former presidential candidates who’ve long criticized former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi — introduced a bill on Tuesday that would halve funds for embassy security, construction and maintenance until the next president moves the U.S. Embassy in Israel to the disputed city of Jerusalem.
tulc(because cutting embassy security is ok if Republicans want to make a point) :sigh:

There is a distinction between a wish list that may sound extremely appealing.

And an unwillingness to face the consequences of one's own actions.

This has informed a lot of foreign policy: making assumptions about overseas countries and people on the basis of an internal political prism.

For sheer hypocritical irony, the British position on Libya has been striking.

First they release the convicted Lockerbie bomber back to Libya.

The British Prime Minister subsequently proclaims Colonel Khadafi to be 'a partner in the fight against terrorism'.

Then with oil contracts for BP in mind, the British join the so called Libyan 'opposition' ("We're not really sure who they are" says then Sec. of State Hilary Clinton) in fighting the government of Colonel Khadafi.

For sheer, hypocritical irony, the contradictory positions of the British government take some beating; it is if they are not even trying to sound plausible.

It's an even bigger mess than BP created in the Gulf of Mexico.

Both situations involved politics.

In the case of Benghazi, the dept of state did not want the general public or Congress to know Ambassador Stevens was meeting Jihadists to deal weapons for security.

The case with Jerusalem is just about every President has vowed to move the US Embassy there, however Congress fails to fund it.

I did a quick google search but the only thing I could find was a GOP congressional move trying to accomplish this. Do you have a link to other presidents attempting this?

One good side effect of the recent election results is that it's showing the naked hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy of many Congressional Republicans. They care about attacks like Benghazi as long as it can be used as a political cudgel against Hillary. Then the security that would have prevented such an attack is cut when they get into power. They pose as fiscal conservatives, and then plan to make American taxpayers foot the bill for President Cheetos' Mexican wall.

It has been said that to learn the most about someone, watch them during a crisis. This is true, but I think that can be expanded to learning about someone when they gain a fair amount of power, as Republicans did after this election.

If the Dems aren't incompetent at politicking, they ought to be able to play this to their advantage in 2 years.
