Now, make no mistake.
I do not teach that one may disregard the Decalogue, or even the two Jesus gave.
I was taught these from a child. They are "guidelines" for life.
But also make no mistake. No single person in the history of the world was even able to do all the Decalogue says. Or the "Law" for that matter. That is why Jesus was needed.
But even my "best" effort falls short.
And that friend, is where you and differ. I see it, you don't. I won't even be able to stand before God and plead how well I've kept any of the commandments, because I know, I haven't been able to keep them fully.
See, I know, sooner or later, I'm gonna sin. Maybe not intentionally. But I will sin.
That is why we have 1 Jn. 1:8-10.
One of my very favorite Southern Gospel groups sings a song that sums up what I have been trying to say.
"Once I wandered in sins black night
There was no way to make my wrongs right.
Then the Old Accuser to the Lord did cry
He is the Sinner and now He must die.
Then I heard a voice say Father I’ll go
And I’ll pay his Sin debt in Calvary’s flow.
I’ll bare in my body the marks of the Cross
To Save this Child who is Sin sick and lost.
And it’s still the Blood that saves from Sin
It’s still the Blood that Cleanses within.
From the Highest Star in Heaven to the depths of the sea.
It is still the Blood of Jesus that brings Victory to me.
There are those who rely on works that they do
And some men count on the times they Prayed thru
But when the Battles over and Victory is won
I’ll go home through the Blood of the Father’s only Son.
And it’s still the Blood that saves from Sin
It’s still the Blood that Cleanses within.
From the Highest Star in Heaven to the depths of the sea.
It is still the Blood of Jesus that brings Victory to me.".
It's Still the Blood.
Or better yet, let me quote from a movie:
"Mister Keith, your best is a modicum of inefficiency."
Lt. Commander Philip Francis Queed to Ensign Willie Keith, The Caine Muntiny. Columbia Pictures Corporation, 1954.
I am sorry you can't see that. No amount of keeping the commandments is good enough.
God Bless
Till all are one.
