• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It is a simple fact that we do not know everything. There are many gap's that we are yet to fill in. But why do people think that belief is the way to ascertain knowledge, and glue those gap's together?

They don't. Belief and Faith are not words designating a particular epistemology, despite what various atheists like to advocate.

What is knowledge?

the theoretical or practical understanding of something

and that's what we do ... have ideas and theories

nobody knows everything .... nor will we ever know everything there is to be known.

some things ... many things (beliefs) are theoretical and remain that way ... some theories become practical

practical
of or concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas

The human brain evolved to seek reasons and explanations. When natural causes aren't clearly apparent, we make up supernatural ones. History confirms this. Events like diseases, weather, natural disasters, the motions of the sun, moon, and stars, the rise and fall of the tides, and many others were at one time all thought to be the results of gods or spirits. And even today, for phenomena that have no obvious naturalistic mechanisms, many people still fabricate, and believe in supernatural ones. It's just how many peoples' cognitive processes work.

Faith without any evidence to support it, doesn't work for me.

Beliefs will never have evidence, for if a belief did, it would not require anyone to believe in it.

I would say this is the truth now, but was it the truth 10 thousand years ago? 20 thousand years ago? 50 thousand? When did religion arrive? That would be the marking point of civilization falling into that way of thinking.
