Thanks for posting those. Really beautiful music :thumbsup:

I am glad you enjoyed it. I sometimes wonder if the churches are missing something of great value by moving their music and singing to the choruses that are like popular music (Hillsong and the like) and away from the hymns and chants that have been with the Church for more than a thousand years.

On Good Friday in my parish church all of the songs sung are ancient, most are translated into contemporary English verse but the music and the meaning of the words remain the same as the ancient Latin and Greek from which they are translated. It makes for a very moving experience.

This is Latin, it is psalm 90; the style seems similar to Orthodox chant, yet this is the style of chant originating with saint Gregory the great (pope from 590 AD until 604 AD).
Old Roman chant - Qui habitat in adiutorio altissimi (Part I) - YouTube

The lyrics are

Latin:

Qui habitat in adiutorio Altissimi, in protectione Dei caeli commorabitur. Dicet Domino: Susceptor meus es, et refugium meum, Deus meus: sperabo in eum. Quoniam ipse liberavit me de laqueo venantium, et a verbo aspero. Scapulis suis obumbrabit tibi, et sub pennis eius sperabis. Scuto circumdabit te veritas eius: non timebis a timore nocturno. A sagitta volante per diem, a negotio perambulante in tenebris, a ruina et daemonio meridiano. Cadent a latere tuo mille, et decem millia a dextris tuis: tibi autem non appropinquabit. Quoniam Angelis suis mandavit de te, ut custodiant te in omnibus viis tuis. In manibus portabunt te, ne unquam offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum. Super aspidem et basiliscum ambulabis, et conculcabis leonem et draconem. Quoniam in me speravit, liberabo eum: protegam eum, quoniam cognovit nomen meum. Invocabit me, et ego exaudiam eum: cum ipso sum in tribulatione. Eripiam eum, et glorificabo eum: longitudine dierum adimplebo eum, et ostendam illi salutare meum.

English:

He that dwells in the help of the Highest, shall sojourn under the shelter of the God of heaven. He shall say to the Lord, Thou art my helper and my refuge: my God; I will hope in him. For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunters, from [every] troublesome matter. He shall overshadow thee with his shoulders, and thou shalt trust under his wings: his truth shall cover thee with a shield. Thou shalt not be afraid of terror by night; nor of the arrow flying by day; [nor] of the [evil] thing that walks in darkness; [nor] of calamity, and the evil spirit at noon-day. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou observe and see the reward of sinners. For thou, O Lord, art my hope: thou, my soul, hast made the Most High thy refuge. No evils shall come upon thee, and no scourge shall draw night to the dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up on their hands, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread on the asp and basilisk: and thou shalt trample on the lion and dragon. For he has hoped in me, and I will deliver him: I will protect him, because he has known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will hearken to him: I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him. I will satisfy him with length of days, and shew him my salvation.

I'd kill to go to one church that does chants as I love choir/choral and Gregorian chants.

Pretty much every Liturgy at our Church is that way.:) All English, but every once in a while the Choir does something in Latin.

Here is an ancient chant, from the times of saints Ambrose and Augustine in the fourth century AD.

Te Deum - 5th Century Monastic Chant (Solemn) - YouTube

Te Deum laudamus:
te Dominum confitemur.
Te aeternum Patrem
omnis terra veneratur.
Tibi omnes Angeli;
tibi caeli et universae Potestates;
Tibi Cherubim et Seraphim
incessabili voce proclamant:
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus,
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra
maiestatis gloriae tuae.
Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus,
Te Prophetarum laudabilis numerus,
Te Martyrum candidatus laudat exercitus.
Te per orbem terrarum
sancta confitetur Ecclesia,
Patrem immensae maiestatis:
Venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium;
Sanctum quoque Paraclitum Spiritum.
Tu Rex gloriae, Christe.
Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius.
Tu ad liberandum suscepturus hominem,
non horruisti Virginis uterum.
Tu, devicto mortis aculeo,
aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.
Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris.
Iudex crederis esse venturus.
Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni:
quos pretioso sanguine redemisti.
Aeterna fac cum sanctis tuis in gloria numerari.

[added later, mainly from Psalm verses:]
Salvum fac populum tuum,
Domine, et benedic hereditati tuae.
Et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in aeternum.
Per singulos dies benedicimus te;
Et laudamus Nomen tuum in saeculum, et in saeculum saeculi.
Dignare, Domine, die isto sine peccato nos custodire.
Miserere nostri Domine, miserere nostri.
Fiat misericordia tua,
Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te.
In te, Domine, speravi:
non confundar in aeternum.

The Anglican Book of Common Prayer translates the Latin to English thus:
We praise thee, O God :
we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship thee :
the Father everlasting.
To thee all Angels cry aloud :
the Heavens, and all the Powers therein.
To thee Cherubim and Seraphim :
continually do cry,
Holy, Holy, Holy :
Lord God of Hosts;
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty :
of thy glory.
The glorious company of the Apostles : praise thee.
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets : praise thee.
The noble army of Martyrs : praise thee.
The holy Church throughout all the world :
doth acknowledge thee;
The Father : of an infinite Majesty;
Thine honourable, true : and only Son;
Also the Holy Ghost : the Comforter.
Thou art the King of Glory : O Christ.
Thou art the everlasting Son : of the Father.
When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man :
thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb.
When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death :
thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God : in the glory of the Father.
We believe that thou shalt come : to be our Judge.
We therefore pray thee, help thy servants :
whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
Make them to be numbered with thy Saints : in glory everlasting.

[added later, mainly from Psalm verses:]
O Lord, save thy people :
and bless thine heritage.
Govern them : and lift them up for ever.
Day by day : we magnify thee;
And we worship thy Name : ever world without end.
Vouchsafe, O Lord : to keep us this day without sin.
O Lord, have mercy upon us : have mercy upon us.
O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us :
as our trust is in thee.
O Lord, in thee have I trusted :
let me never be confounded.

Text in Latin:
Ego propter te flagellavi Aegyptum cum primogenitis suis:
et tu me flagellatum tradidisti.
Popule meus, quid feci tibi?
aut in quo constristavi te?
responde mihi.
Ego eduxi te de Aegypto, demerso
Pharaone in Mare Rubrum: et tu me tradidisti principibus sacerdotum. (From the Missale Romanum)

Text in English:
Because I punished Egypt with their first-borns, have you surrendered
 to be lashed?
Ye people: what have I made you or in what have I offended you?
Answer me.
I took you out of Egypt, I sank the
Pharaoh in the Red Sea and you delivered me to the princes of the priests. (From the Roman Missal)

This chant in Latin forms part of the Latin rite Catholic liturgy on Good Friday.

Jesum Tradidit (Good Friday, Matins, 3rd Nocturn, Responsory) - YouTube

Jesum Tradidit (Good Friday, Matins, 3rd Nocturn, Responsory)

Latin:
Jesum tradidit impius summis principibus sacerdotum, et senioribus populi:
Petrus autem sequebatur eum a longe, ut videret finem.
Adduxerunt autem eum ad Caipham principem sacerdotum,
ubi scribae et pharisaei convenerant.
Petrus autem sequebatur eum a longe, ut videret finem.

English:
The wicked man betrayed Jesus to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
Peter, however, followed him from a distance, to see the end.
They led him to Caiaphas, the high priest,
where the scribes and the Pharisees were met together.
Peter, however, followed him from a distance, to see the end.
