Baptism for the dead

1 Cor. 15: 29
Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?

I'd like to get some opinions on why this was being done in the church at Corinth.

Notice He said, "why are THEY" baptized for the dead. That was a practice being done back then but it was not given by God and was not condoned or taught in the early Church or in ANY CHRISTIAN Church since
