  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

If I had really wanted to discuss the Church of Rome, I would have gone to a thread devoted to that topic...

Now where were we before we were so rudely interrupted? Oh yes, Isaiah 9:3

How so very interesting - that passage is quoted in Matthew, I think.

Hmmm... "not increased" doesn't appear in the
Textus Receptus ... Looks as though the translators of the AKJV might have bungled that passage a bit. Or did they perhaps correct an error that was recorded in the (for the purposes of THEIR translation) originals?

And here is a VERY nice translation of the text ... Is 9:2- You multiplied the nation, you made her joy grow; they are delighted before you as those who are delighted with the harvest, as those who are exultant with the division of the spoils.

Do you intend some time to make an intelligent contribution to the discussions on this site, Green Eyed Lady? It WOULD make a pleasant change.

So long as we are respectful of others regardless of their religious affiliation.

Also, comments like this would be better served for PM's as opposed to being "public" about our feelings, that's why we have those options.

    Peace.

I saw earlier that someone said that the KJV and the NASB are at odds in their respective versions of Philippians 2:6. However, I can show through context involving Philippians 2:5-7 that this is not so.

    KJV
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: - Philippians 2:5-7

    NASB
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. - Philippians 2:5-7

When the KJV says Christ "thought it not robbery to be equal with God", it means that Christ knew that He was perfectly entitled to God's glory, but as you read verse 7, it is made clear that Christ sheds God's glory to become a servant to, and die for, men. The KJV is extremely stilted in its message, but in context, the same message is conveyed.

The NASB says Christ "did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped", meaning that Christ did not have to grab for God's glory because He already possessed it. BUT, once again, the message, in context, is that He shed His glory for to save men.

Of course, I DO advocate the NASB as a far superior translation. The point I wanted to make is that although the KJV often delivers its message in a stilted, round-about manner, it is not diametrically opposite to the superior translations.

    *"smarty-pants" hat off* :sorry:

    Quite correct, Humble Joe.
The translations are not in conflict - and grasped, while an accurate translation, could as easily and accurately be translated as "clung to".

Dear Filosofer, you made a very good point... Yes studying it all to learn more about God and His Word, is fine, but not apart from the Holy Spirit, as you put it well. Blessings, Gil (Lig75)
