What could I plant that is basically year round and attractive for my front yard?
Flowering bushes? Roses? Right now I have elephant ears  in one part of the garden, in front of the house. And the other part is mostly dead plain green, small plants. I am very clueless about gardening!!
I should mention I live in Central Texas. Its warm more than half the year.
I love purples, pinks and reds. any help will do THANKS!!

If a camilia is hardy in your area, it would be nice. It makes a beautiful flower, and I think it keeps its leaves all year. A magnolia is also very pretty.

Before you can do any research, you really need to figure out what hardiness zone you are in. I'll paste a link to the USDA site below. In central Texas, you're probably in zone 8. The zones are just areas with similar low temperatures. When you read about various plants, shrubs, and trees, the description will often say something like "zones 4-8."
