• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does anybody here have any advice for young people with Aspergers who are preparing for college?

Does it help or hurt to have a diagnosis of Aspergers on your record?......is there any extra tutoring or mentoring available if you have the diagnosis on your record?....or any special financial aid?

Any advice for taking the SAT or ACT?

Any advice for picking a college or field of study?

Is it better to go away to college or stay closer to home?

Any other thoughts or advice?

It depends on the college and the quality of the staff whether it will hurt or help to have AS/HFA dx on the record. There are "Equal Opportunity Grants" some colleges have an EOP office.

Practice writing those essays for the SAT. Most of the math are those exceptions to the rule problems.

It's better for auties to go to a private college, where a lot of the professors are on the spectrum as well. Can you deal with a dorm? It's really social.

Most auties do well in college. Grad school is cool because it is more independent study. If you pick a lot of autie professors, you won't have to go to class all the time.
