They spent 1/2 century trying to make excuses and denials for deaths of 6 million Jews. They finally come to realization they can not do this. But give credit for effort.

Most of the extreme right are not anti-Israel. The alt-right and white supremacists remain anti-Semitic, but that's not the typical. Trump doesn't seem to be anti-Semitic, for example, although he did offend some Jewish people with his comments on their supposed business practices.

Far as I can see, he meant it as a compliment.

I meant in manner of shifting position. I think at one time extreme right were anti-Israel but have shifted position now. I agree with comment about Trump remark.

Barbarian observes:
Nearly half of the republicans in a district think an admirer of Hitler is the best candidate. You may not find that to be an indicator of a major problem in the GOP, but clearly the establishment republicans think so.

Well, let's take a look...

Actually, he had two other republican opponents, neither of which was a nazi sympathizer, anti-Semitic, or a white supremacist.

Yep. About 49.5% of the republican voters.

I said nearly half. Can't get much closer than 49.5. to half.

Hitler claimed that the Jews were uniting with the communists to control "real Germans." Do you think he was right?

Which of course, is also a lie. The communists never had control of the German republic. It's the nature of Nazis to lie; it's part of their program. Such things, in a time when "alternative facts" are practiced by the radical right in America, are taken seriously by white surpremacists.

Indeed.
The Communist party was the largest party in Europe right before Hitler came to power, and remained a significant power during his rise until he became the dictator.

Hitler said a lot of things. People believed what they want to believe, both about the economy and everything else that was going on.

Interesting post. You just describe situation in many parts of current USA.

It opens eyes to how easy history can repeat.

True enough. I've noticed it quite clearly in the last decade. We are nearing the end times. No doubt.

Not end times I do not think. Hitler did not bring end times. Just death and suffering for many many millions. But of course today the hated group are not Jews so this hatred is acceptable to many Americans.

I stand against this hatred. I pray more Americans will stand against instead of stand with.

The Communist party was the largest party in Europe right before Hitler came to power, and remained a significant power during his rise until he became the dictator.

However, it had never even shared power in Germany, being far behind the center-left coalition, and the socialists. It had never even participated in a government in France, or in England. The Italian communist party never shared power either, until the 1970s, it's high-water mark where it got about 1/3 of the votes.

Is there any country at all in Europe of the 1930s where communists got power outside of Soviet control?

Hitler said a lot of things.

The problem is that more and more repubilicans are saying them, too.

People believed what they want to believe

It's starting to happen in America. Hence the right wing obsession about being "replaced" by Jews and/or Hispanics. It's more than a little crazy.

Current USA politics is lesson to see how easy it is for history to repeat.

Maybe enough have learned from history to stop repitition? It is what I pray for.
