"President Donald Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani both mistakenly made calls to Republican Sen. Mike Lee as deadly riots were unfolding at the US Capitol earlier this week, a spokesman for the senator confirmed to CNN -- calls that were intended for another GOP senator the White House was frantically trying to convince to delay the counting of Electoral College votes." link

Trump, rather than trying to stop the riot in the Capitol building or worrying about the safety of the VP or others at the Capitol, was instead trying to get Senators to delay the certification of the Electoral Votes.

That's a pressure tactic.

And I don't think a self-pardon will make any difference to most of the Conservative justices he appointed.

EDIT: IMO his oath of office takes precedent over any other section of the Constitution. Loyalty to the United States of America comes first.

A self pardon would allow any president to commit any crime with impunity. If the SCOTUS were to decide that presidents COULD pardon themselves, then the situation could come up where a president loots the entire US treasury, sends it to some hidden bank account in some small corrupt nation willing to hide his money, and then pardon himself, thereby eliminating any chance of holding him to account for stealing all the money in the US.

I doubt that having a leader that is unaccountable for what he or she does as president is what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they decided that the US was NOT going to be a monarchy. And I don't think that replacing one kind of dictator with another kind of dictator is what they had in mind when the wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Trump had no control over the actions of the rioters, he's not a puppet master. The rioters couldn't be controlled with bullets, let alone words.

The national guard was called in prior to the BLM protest at the same location. Why weren't the same precautions taken against these people? When you look at the history of folks like the proud boys or other alt right groups, they ain't any less violent...

Time for the excuses to end. It is what it is, and anyone with even an ounce of intellectual honesty can see that.

2021 storming of the United States Capitol - Wikipedia

On the morning of January 6, protesters assembled on the Ellipse for a "Save America" rally.[20][21] in which Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, and several members of Congress addressed the crowd.[22] Trump encouraged his supporters to "fight like hell" to "take back our country" and to march towards the Capitol,[23][24] while Giuliani called for "trial by combat"[25], and Trump Jr. threatened "we're coming for you."[26]

This is all in the history books now, and history won't remember trump kindly...

The GOP has to be made aware that it is no longer a “conservative” party, so it better get to deciding just what kind of populist Party it sees itself, you know, for the time being.

Leaders are individuals who are able to sway people with words. Leaders have the ability to persuade, motivate, inspire and direct by what they say. This skill, this power is especially important in a President, a position often described as the Leader of the Free World. Since you assert that Trump lacks that skill, you are identifying him as an incompetent leader. At least we can agree about that.

Anyone can post on Wikipedia, although it is much controlled by leftists. The technique of misleading by using short quotations, taking something out of context, is an old and common one. There was nothing wrong with President Trump's speech, the call to impeach him is all about the concern by Democrats that Trump will win the next election, if there were open debates and an honest election. I assure you that those very words quoted have been used by many, many on the left. As to those on the left, if you care about this country, love God and love your neighbor, and urge complete election transparency--start with releasing electronic copies of the ballots and election logs.

The concern isn't that Trump would win in 2024 but if he tried to run we would see more of the same kind of violence and division.
That's not a valid reason to impeach a president. We have had major cities burned, looting, murders, and many Democrat leaders have refused to denounce it. I feel there will be more violence once Joe gets
and the left tries to squash people's rights. But that's not a justifiable reason to impeach Biden.

Fomenting insurrection certainly is a valid reason to impeach a president. Heck, they impeached Clinton for far, far less.

We have had major cities burned, looting, murders, and many Democrat leaders have refused to denounce it.

I don't know of any who have specifically stated they refused to denounce riots and violence. I do know that many actually have denounced those actions, including President Elect Biden.

I feel there will be more violence once Joe gets
and the left tries to squash people's rights.

Probably not, since he's never said he wanted to do that, nor has he done anything toward doing that in all his 36 years in the Senate or 8 in the White House as VP.

But that's not a justifiable reason to impeach Biden.

That's true. Not doing something you never said you were going to do is definitely not a justifiable reason to impeach anyone.

Inciting an insurrection that interrupted a joint session of Congress and putting nearly every member of our legislative branch and the Vice President in danger while doing nothing to quell the violence he inspired, accusing members of the government with baseless conspiracies, pressuring and even tacitly threatening a Secretary of State to overturn certified election results and to find him the exact number of votes he needs to win the state are all easily impeachable offenses. He was impeached before for a lot less than this. He needs to be impeached again or accountability and the rule of law mean nothing in the United States.

Quit the baloney. Don't parrot this "insurrection" garbage, the truth is the left has openly tolerated and too often encouraged the burning and looting of American cities using rhetoric FAR more inciteful than anything President Trump has said. Stop the hatred. The over 100,000 peaceful protesters, consisting of police officers, veterans, and God fearing people have been slandered by the left for daring to call for election honesty. How would you feel if you went to a peaceful protest and a tiny percentage of the people went crazy and acted in a similar manner--would you think it was right for all to be condemned? Attacking them and censoring them is far more of a mob-mentality insurrection than anything they even imagine.

I assume you have specific examples of these statements. Feel free to present them at any time.

-- A2SG, and extra points for any that are said by those in a position of authority...such as the President ....
