Then why does leaving the problem to charities and the private sector lead to worse health care conditions?
When Australia privatized a part of its health care, wait times actually increased. And while the US has the most expensive health care in the advanced world, it gets results worse than any other country in it. The idea that what we need is more privatization is ludicrous.
Two things:
What part of Australia's health care was privatized and why?
The US is most expensive because of outdated lawsuit laws,
nothing to do with medical care itself. To protect themselves,
hospitals and doctors must not only carry ridiculously large
amounts of insurance, costing us more, but they must also
run unnecessary tests. Of course, there is also that multi-million
dollar equipment they buy and have to use somewhere.
As to why we are so far from the top of healthcare? Two main
reasons.
1) Bad training/bad doctors/immune drug makers
How many doctors discuss what you eat and how it affects your
body? Many are just pill dispensers, because that is where the
money is. And what recourse is there when the pharma industry
is immune from lawsuits and prosecution? When they pay to
police themselves?
2) Medical and scientific dogma
Science is at a low point in history today,
including medical science. Dogma rules, and
dissenters don't last long in their chosen field.
