It wasn't an imperialist war. Russia entered WW1 to protect Serbia from Austro-Hungarian empire. And Russians were always living in some kind of hardship. That's not an excuse to do what they did to the Church and believers.
Not sure what hypocrisy of the churches are you talking about.
So you believe in Totalitarian , autocratic government by a single man , (the Tsar ) , supported by the established Church .
How is this any better than a totalitarian marxist regime , who at least tried to feed you ?

And most of WW1 was caused by imperialism , even if indirect in Russia . After all the people had no say at all ,none so it was not a peoples war like in Ireland ,a truly patriotic war against England .
As I said most people were not against God ,but against dictatorship . It was only later , when Stalin took over that atheism became the 'religion' of all .
