He went to Iraq this year not as an NBC reporter, but as an employee of the MSNBC show "National Geographic Explorer".

This is a statement from an NBC spokeswoman regarding his firing:

It was wrong for Mr. Arnett to grant an interview to state-controlled Iraqi TV, especially at a time of war,'' NBC spokeswoman Allison Gollust said. ''And it was wrong for him to discuss his personal observations and opinions in that interview.''

Arnett has called the incident a ''misjudgment'' and has apologized.

Leaving a second network under a cloud may mark the end of his TV career. Arnett was the on-air reporter of the 1998 CNN report that accused American forces of using sarin nerve gas on a Laotian village in 1970 to kill U.S. defectors. Two CNN employees were sacked and Arnett was reprimanded over the report, which the station later retracted. Arnett left the network when his contract was not renewed.

The above is from the Associated Press.

though most reporters are entitled to have thier own opinions - I agree that they should not air them as part of thier reports.. their job is to report the war.. if they oppose th ewar or oppose anything about our Military - then stay home and allow another reporter to question you..

Outstanding! I am delighted to hear of his demise.

Now if we can just get rid of Geraldo......:(

Geraldo is being escorted out of Iraq by the US military..seems he gave away the position of troops on TV..I do not ~think~ Fox will be happy..Maybe he can join Peter at the last watering hole for libgeral socialists..NPR

Geraldo..hehe!

I just read on another forum that it was a HOAX..but I heard it on MSNBC and CNN

They then posted an offical letter that said Fox has "agreed to remove him"

We will have to see if the old Geraldo starts reporting from somewhere else

(You know of course the military hates the man:>)

That's the problem with "embedded journalists".

When it gets hot, they don't have anyone around to tell them what they can and can not say. So they think, "Hey I've got free reign."

This is extrememly dangerous and a big problem is that looking at the war through a camera lense and only from one front is like looking at the war through a soda straw.

Having journalists with the troops does nothing more than provide entertainment (and maybe a little assistance to help the Pentagon see what's really happening and not th story board version.)

I think that CentComm should send them ALL out accept for that one reporter from Fox News who is a Marine Corps Reserve Officer (not Ollie North).

They didn't appear to hate him in Afghanistan the other day. He does need to be more careful about giving the location of the troops. He even drew a map in the sand telling what this company was doing ect, ect. I was wondering last night when I saw that. Funny he is getting kicked out that fast, when he just got there on Saturday,LOL. The reporters are told what they can, and can't tell, maybe Geraldo didn't get that briefing or slept through it, but that isn't an excuse. I don't see Fox firing him, but he may have to work from NY now.

What is that suppose to mean?

I could care less what anybody's opinion is, but if you're stupid enough to be interviewed by Iraqi tv (government controlled), and discuss the reticence of the Coalition forces to the enemy along with a multitude of other idiotic things he said, then you deserve to be fired.

Personally, I'm not shedding any tears.  He shot himself in the foot, and that's fine by me. :)

Heaven forbid a news reporter hesitats to put on his boots and march instep with the American propaganda machine. Off with his head!

What an idiotic statement. Off with heads is what Hussein does, in case you've forgotten. These guys, even though they're reporters, are still citizens and  to do ANYTHING that might jeapardize troops is unconscionable and they should be punished. If Arnett said anything that slows down the progress or Jerry Rivers does something that gives away a location, they should be jailed, plain and simple. M

"I report the truth of what is happening in Baghdad and will not apologize for it," he told the tabloid newspaper, one of the most prominent opponents of Britain's involvement in the war

Wait a second!!  Didn't he apologize on NBC this morning on the Today Show?  Wait!!  Does that mean that he's insincere, doesn't mean what he says and you can't believe what he says?

Oh my.....now, that is news, isn't it?

The wide spread rummors that Geraldo got kicked out of Iraq are wrong. He is sitting there with the 101st this morning. He didn't give out too much info according to the commanders in the field. They considered it vague enough, and their opinion is the one that matters IMO.
