Paul exhorted: Look at your calling brethren... God chose the despised things and things that were nothing by human standards, to bring to nothing the things that the world considers to be of value.
This means that we should expect the church to be filled with dysfunctional and defective and sinful people of every kind. As Jesus said, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit; and The meek shall inherit the earth.'
Everyone has their little tick, their quirk, the idiosyncrasy that might cause the rest of us to cringe or even be nauseous. We all have them. I fear the person who is outwardly too perfect because they usually compensate with greater quirks than all!
This forum is a microcosm of these truths, as we can see by looking around at all the personalities and perspectives gathered. For this reason it behooves the believer to be more than a little gracious and patient because these personalities are likely never to change; even while they criticize others. It's the human condition.
However, I also would like to reprove those who come with malicious and devious motives, while sounding like really spiritual people. It's really just a means to the malicious end.
Many women are familiar with what I mean, unfortunately, because they are often partnered with one of these people who seem to be deficient of something that they try to replace by sucking the life out of her life, keeping her under his thumb, tearing her down, crushing her self esteem while making her feel guilty for not giving more. They feed off of the energy that she is having stripped away; and they make no apology for doing so.
A person can come to such a marketplace as this sounding like a real spiritual counselor, concerned with every one else's spiritual state, and loving them selflessly.
How many pulpits have we not seen of these actors who drain their congregants of life? Such a person would always be negative, always critical, always demanding more, and yet no one really understands what they are going on about. Once they find a personality whom they perceive as vulnerable and lacking in self esteem, they create a false bond with that person, but only for the purpose of placing them personally under the thumb. The more personable they become, the more leeches they attach. The more they assert their love, the more they contradict it with criticisms, but of course it is all for the good of the person they are hooked on to.
For that reason, we should avoid negative people like the plague. People who make themselves out to be 'water walkers' levitating above the world and handing down Mosaic condemnations and pronouncements, regardless how much truth may be found in them, may be someone just so much more messed up than everyone else, that they cannot appreciate the love and security that Christ gives, and has to seek their validation from putting others down, so they can feel strong and secure. None of us are so messed up that we need these human emotion leeches. May God grant us all supernatural discernment and deliverance.
