This is a good question, sparked by a couple articles seen on the internet. The answer is “soon but not yet”, and here are three reasons why we may expect the red horse of war to take peace from the earth in 2023, but first, an insight as to a couple events before the red horse.

The events of Revelation are initiated or signaled by an earthquake clearly seen in Rev 8:5. Then the 7 angels with the 7 trumpets prepare to sound. This sequence is also seen in Rev 10:3 when a mighty angel cries as a lion roars to initiate the 7 thunders. The ‘lion’s roar’ is the Lion of Judah. The Lord shall roar…the earth shall shake.” Joel 3:16. The lion’s roar is also seen in Rev 6:1 before the four horsemen.

When John heard “thunder,” he said it’s the 1st beast (compare 2nd beast in Rev 6:3; 3rd in 6:5; 4th in 6:7). The first beast is a lion (Rev 4:7) and again it’s the Lion of Judah, Rev 5:5, who ‘roars’ with an earthquake. (above)

Historically, an earthquake ended the ancient lukewarm church of Laodicea—type and antitype for our time! An earthquake also initiates the end-time “day of the Lord” as seen in Isa 2:12,21; Joel 2:10,11, 1Thess 5:2,3--this text doesn't specify "earthquake" with"day of the Lord" but it says "sudden destruction" when they say "Peace & safety."

"Peace & safety" was the Iran Nuclear Treaty in 2015 along with other "when-then" signs like gay marriage had standing "where it ought not" (Mk 13:14) in the Supreme Court and the pope was "standing where he ought not" in US Congress. So we should be on high alert when this week of 7 years ends and the end-time period may begin.

I see reasons why 2023 may be huge, but will wait to see the response here. "Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Ps 90:12.

Anyone looking can see that war is on the horizon everywhere, economies are collapsing worldwide, there is an unavoidable massive famine heading our way, and pestilence has been in our face for months, now awaiting the second wave which is always worse than the first to be used to further promote the global agenda. Monel is being demonized as 'unsafe' and moves are being made to go to digital currency. More than one source is seeking to normalize the chipping and tracking of the people of earth.

This world is diving headfirst into the woodchipper of the Trib, and very few understand. Not only can one hear the horsemen, but they can also be smelled as well. If I had to guess, the 2023 prediction is off by about 3 years.

Where are you living?

There is actually no relevant war right now, the vast majority of countries are doing economically ok, there is no famine in the developed world etc.

I have no idea why are some Christians so hysterical everytime something unpleasant happens.

The first horseman has already arrived and has deceived most of mankind. It is this deception that will open the door for the other three.
Thank you for your interest. Baker Books has a title, "More Than Conquerors" with half a dozen reasons why the white horse is not antichrist but a message of truth like the early gospel went conquering and to conquer in Paul's day.
A 2nd contextual reason to consider is that John heard thunder, one of the four beasts saying "Come and see" The 1st beast is a lion (Rev 4:7)--it's the Lion of Judah, Rev 5:5 and when He roars, the earth shall shake, Joel 3:16. This is the earthquake that initiates "the day of the Lord" as seen in Isa 2:12,21; Joel 2:10,11, 1Thess 5:2,3. The "roar" (earthquake) is ALSO the 'knock' in Luke 12:36 because that's the hidden meaning in Rev 3:20--that lukewarm church ended in an earthquake. We haven't see it yet, but it will punish S. Calif. (Hollywood etc) for exporting sin to the world so that Muslims think Christians are part of the Great Satan. My website is not my name.com as stated below, but HealthHappinessDestiny.com

This world is diving headfirst into the woodchipper of the Trib, and very few understand. Not only can one hear the horsemen, but they can also be smelled as well. If I had to guess, the 2023 prediction is off by about 3 years.

From Roe v Wade in 1973, every sabbatical year has had a major sign of end-times with Mt St Helens eruption making a Dark Day over 3 states after wind carried the ashes on May 19, 1980--200th anniversary from the Dark Day in 1780 that New Englanders took as a sign of the end (Joel 2:31).
7 years later the pope kissed the US ground in a claim for Catholicism and went around the US like the Roman general went around Jerusalem, and the stock market crashed 500 points in the biggest crash since 1929 (smaller market then)
7 years later a million Protestant Tutsis were slaughtered in Rwanda with so many UN vehicles that could have stopped it, but they were ordered to "stand down" and let local (catholic) government handle it. 1994. The UN is the beast (gov't) that the pope will ride to world domininion in Rev 17:2,3.
7 years later (2001) was 9-11, WTC, clear sign of end-times.
7 years later, 2008 the stock market crashed and recession.
7 years later, 2015, the abomination "standing where it ought not" (Mk 13:14) was gay marriage standing in Supreme Court and pope standing in US Congress.
7 years later, 2022 will be big, but the 50th year, jubilee will be an event like Egypt when death fell on Egypt and God took His people to a covenant marriage by which they became His kingdom (Exod 19:5,6) and Bride, Jer 3:14. Paul included a reference to the Exodus when he said, "All those things happened to the for our examples...ends of the world." 1Cor 10:1,11. It will be similar for us if we hope to sing the song of Moses and the Lamb (Rev 15:3). The imagery of asleep with lights out (Matt 25:5) or "blind and naked" (Rev 3:17) is more appropriate for a lukewarm Christianity today than we would like to think... I'm 68 years old. I got saved in 1971. Preachers have been saying that we are in the end times since back then. Every incident that happens in the world is another indication of impending tribulation.

" You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

"So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains."

This statement was from the Olivet Discourse where Jesus was prophesying. Part of it referred to the future destruction of Jerusalem by Titus in 70 AD. During that event, a Roman general stood in the Holy of Holies, where only the High Priest was allowed to be. That was an abomination of desolation and most likely to what Jesus was referring. That was the "end of the age." But it wasn't the first "abomination of desolation." Antiochus Epiphanes IV who ruled Palestine from 174-64 BC sacrificed a swine on the brazen altar and set up a statue to Zeus in the temple.

Later in the chapter Jesus talks about the end times when He will return. He warns of false prophets and makes it clear that when He returns, all the world will see Him. At that time He will send out his angels to gather his elect from the four winds. This is a strong indication of a post-tribulation rapture.
But there are indications in the New Testament of a pre-tribulation rapture as well.

But one thing is evident: Jesus made it very clear that we are not to know the time of the end. We are to live as if it could occur at any moment. One thing that studying Bible prophecy over the years has shown me is that much of what we believe will happen is due to the popularity of certain writings by a fallible human interpretation of Scripture. And that, as Israel completely misunderstood prophecies concerning the first advent of the messiah, we could easily fall into the same trap, especially if we allow men (well intentioned or not) to interpret prophecy for us. I've seen some pretty big stretches of imagination regarding prophecy, especially when theologians try to find the US in prophecy. And I don't think I need to recount the ridiculous theories regarding who may or may not be the Antichrist.

It matters very little if we know when the end is coming. We will know what is expected of us should be live long enough to experience the persecution which will surely come. Keep in mind, much of the world's believers are already experiencing persecution. We, in the United States and in most Western nations have been shielded from that horror. But recent events have shown the teachings of the Bible are in direct opposition to many powerful forces at work. For the first time in U.S. history, churches are under attack by the government. Our faith is going to be tested. Especially our willingness to love our enemies, resist not evil and not return evil with evil or violence with violence.

Jesus will return in His own time. Our job is to tend the garden, share our faith with others and above all be living ambassadors of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Baker Books published "More Than Conquerors" with half a dozen reasons why the white horse is NOT antichrist, but a message of truth for the end-times, like Elijah who is to "restore all things", Matt 17:11.
White is the color or righteousness; red is the color of the anti-christ, Rev 17:3--a chapter with half a dozen clues that can only point to one church involved in politics (verse 2), wealthy, vs 4), a Mother church, (vs 5), history of persecution, (vs 6), sitting on 7 hills, vs 9.
Anti-christ can mean in place of Him--when people pray to saints and ask forgiveness of sins from someone they call "Father" (Christ said, call no man Father, Matt 23:9), that system is anti-christ and "mother of abominations" Rev 17:5 for use of force to make converts in the days of the reformers. When one is forced to convert, it desolates the faith of that person--"abomination of desolation" in Matt 24:15, and yes, we have seen it "standing where it ought not" (Mk 13:14) in US Congress.
The white horse of truth follows the "roar" of the 1st beast in Rev 6, the Lion of Judah and when He 'roars', the earth shall shake and everyone will know we are entering the end-time day of the Lord. Compare Joel 3:16 with Isa 2:12,21; Joel 2:10,11; 1Thess 5:2,3. We aren't there yet, but coming!

Thank you for your comments! But maybe you can remember about 40 years ago when people waiting in long lines for gas?
A banker friend then said the economy would crash and we would be in end-times. Trouble with Iran has waxed and waned since a Persian Gulf Crisis in 1987.
Because the Bible has a chiastic structure with paradise in Gen 1 and Rev 21, man crawled into a chasm of sin in Genesis and crawls out in Revelation. Christ created for six days (Heb 1:2) and ceased on the 7th day--He will mediate for six years and cease on the 7th which must be a sabbatical year just as the 7th day in beginning was a sabbath, Exod 20:8-11. (If He was still mediating, there would be mercy, but plagues fall without mercy on an impenitent world.
All of that being so, the last 7 years must begin after a sabbatic year so the 7th year when He ceases mediation is ALSO a sabbatical year. The next sabbatical year is 2022, and something big will happen that year; 2015 had huge signs of Joel 2:31; Peace & safety (1Thess 5:2,3) the abomination of gay marriage "standing where it ought not" (Lev 18:22; Mk 13:14) and pope in Congress.

Metaphors for what? What do they represent? The early gospel did go "conquering and to conquer" as Paul said. The end-time message must do similar as Christ promised to send Elijah to "restore all things" and the seals of Revelation have a contextual link to topics that need to be restored. "Thunder in Rev 6:1 is linked to God's name in John 12:28,29 and Rev 14:1,2.
When Israel made a covenant at Sinai, God later said, "I am married to you," Jer 3:14, but He got an ignorant bride that worshiped a calf named Baal--the translation is Lord. We call God Lord, but don't have His name--how are we much different than Israel then? Every place you see LORD in all capitol letters translators removed the 4 letters of God's name (called the tetragrammaton) and subsituted the title Lord but God wants to be known by His great name as Solomon said and He dedicated the temple to God's name in 1Kings 8:41-43, yet not one Christian in 100 knows God's name. If you think so, you might be surprised to know that Josephus said His name "consists of four vowels"! Vowels are the music and melody of words, without vowels, we would be very limited in b,d,f,g,h etc
God lends us His name so we can even talk and be understood. More on this at God's Name: more to it than you'd guess

I think the four horsemen, all four, represent the tribulation. Christ will indeed appear on a white horse, but after those days, at the 'day of the Lord'.

War and famine don't have to be physical. Read Amos 8:11. The famine is referring to a time when people won't hear the word of God. i.e not physical.

Actually, the tribulation is separate from the events of Revelation 6. Revelation 6 judgement comes upon a certain group of people, while the great tribulation comes upon the entire world.

The antichrist (deception) has the color of scarlet, Rev 17:4 and the crown on the rider of the white horse is Strong's 4735, a victor's crown or crown of righteousness if you search the word.
The early gospel went "conquering and to conquer" as Paul said the gospel was preached to the world in his day, but there needed to be a falling away, that the man of sin (papacy) be revealed who claims to forgive sins and promise salvation in a system that can't even have priests without pedophilia and homosexuality.
The white horse is preceded by the "thunder"--the roar of the Lion of Judah--Joel 3:16 decodes it to an earthquake which precedes the 7 trumpets & 7 thunders also, concurrently.

Lot's of people think "the day of the Lord" is when He comes in the sky, but Joel 2:10,11 show it starts with an earthquake and there is no 2nd coming clearly seen in Joel.
