Has anyone ever done the Tae Bo exercises? I have three videos and just started a work out program yesterday.

I am doing the 8 min workout, and going to attempt to do it twice a day, morning and night.

Hopefully in about three weeks, with a salad, veggies and protein diet I can get rid of these extra pounds I accumulated through the winter.

I almost forgot I had such a good workout tape. It really tones the whole body, especially in the arms where I apparently have really stored up the extra.

Gosh darn I think I have my mothers and grandmothers arms. It will take a lot of work to keep that in shape.

Anyone have exercise programs you are doing? Or healthy diets?

I have always been reminded that our bodies are the house of the Holy Spirit. And we are to take care of it as best as we can.

Tae Bo is an aerobic exercise routine developed by taekwondo practitioner Billy Blanks, and was one of the first "cardio-boxing" programs to enjoy commercial success. Such programs use the motions of martial arts at a rapid pace designed to promote fitness. The name Tae Bo is a portmanteau of tae kwon do and boxing.

Blanks developed the routine in 1989, by combining music with elements from his tae kwon do and boxing training to form an intense workout regimen. During the 1990s, some celebrities (such as Paula Abdul) started using Blanks as their personal trainer and a series of videos were mass-marketed to the public. As a result, Tae Bo became somewhat of a pop culture phenomenon in the late 1990s. Gyms began offering kickboxing-based fitness classes similar to Tae Bo. Tae Bo videos and DVDs continue to rank among the top sellers in the fitness genre and derivative classes are still offered at many gyms.

Tae Bo classes are taught worldwide. Tae Bo includes many of the same punches and kicks as karate, but is not intended for fighting—it was not meant for any combat or self-defense applications. There are no throws, grappling moves, or ground fighting techniques in Tae Bo. Its only intent is to increase health through movement. Tae Bo also includes aerobic exercises intended to strengthen all muscles of the body with basic choreography.

The high-intensity workout is intended to increase cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance and flexibility. Recently, Blanks has offered a line of Tae Bo videos known as the "Believer's" series that introduce Christian elements such as prayer into the workouts.

Blanks is still currently active in fitness. In 2004 and 2005 he launched another successful program called Billy Blanks BOOTCAMP. These videos dove into combining original Tae Bo moves along with rigorous training he had learned while visiting the troops overseas. Billy's Bootcamp Elite followed the original Bootcamp with the addition and use of Bands. The bands which wrap on your feet and hands create more resistance for a different workout. Blanks has released a new line of videos, Tae Bo Amped, featuring "cardio bursts," 30- to 60-second periods of more rapid movement for increased calorie burn, and the use of a new Amplifier bar which adds resistance to the workout.

Thanks Sphinx, I did not realize it was a tae kwon do exercise. I have wanted to take that since I was a little girl, and my father took classes in it. So I guess it always stuck, now here I am a mid 40 something woman doing the exercises inspired by the marital art.

I did all of the tae-bo tapes several years ago. I started with the half-hour ones. I seemed to be clumsy at first, but I sure did catch on quick, and I absolutely loved it. I am very high-energy. It's fun, and there are plenty of variations to keep you going. I hope you like it. Good luck!

I know what you mean about when you first start out. By the end of the week I will have it all down. But boy it sure kicks my butt half way through

I always thought that Tae Bo would be a good way to tackle exercise and anger management at the same time.

I like exercise that's good for multi-tasking. That's why I like to exercise in the water (a good exercise for someone my age...) To me water is healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. It's great for de-stressing. If I feel stressed I will float around on a noodle and hum to myself, "All day, all night, angels watching over me, my Lord," or "Wind beneath my wings" and actually feel supported, safe in the arms of God.

When I was younger, I loved the high energy workout of jumping on a rebounder (mini-trampoline.) That was soooooooooooo much fun.

i did the tae bo tapes for a while way back, but ran into a certain problem... tv went kaput... didn't bother buying an other one. found some workouts to do on my computer for a while. now we have yourself fitness but i burnt out again. the workout i think i like most is, just playing some high energy music and go on the trampoline with some dumbbells. then do some other exercises with the exercise ball. cardio seems to ware me out, so i want to focus more on weight trainning. and conveniently, a few weeks ago, our neighbor was throwing a sets of weights and wheight bench on the curb. so i picked it all up i also want to get the tire changed on my bike so i can go for ride up and down our hilly countryside. an other crazy thing i tried a few time, is tying a strap to a skid and pulling my kids on it across the lawn.

I love the rebounder! I use to have one. It is great for moving the lymphatic system, since it doesn’t move itself by way of cardiovascular, and needs help moving. I have recommended that type of workout to some of my clients in the past.

Weights & cardio- Mon, Thurs, Sat
I have 2 sets of workouts that I alternate.. For example, one week I will do deadlifts twice, the next once.

Cardio or basketball- Tues, Wed

My job keeps me warmed up throughout the day.
So I am guessing you might be a gym teacher?

You have some really good ideas.

Wish I hade time to do the rebounder with weights. This workout is a well rounded plan for the whole body and it is only an 8 min. (or so they say), when you include the warm up and down, it is about 17 min. But still is the best workout for the time I have to commit. And if I do it two times a day, like I said, in three weeks, I will be where I want to be.

The best work out for the least amount of agonizing time spent, that’s me aright.

i know what you mean, i should probably do it too, now that we have a tv again. (someone donated it because it was not working well... find out, as long as the weather is dry, it works well ) i might stick more to something short and effective.

actually, a lot of the stuff i do on the mini trampoline is based on the moves done in tae bo. punches, blocks and those elbow to knee things he does. maybe some more hand moves that i learned when i took karate while in college.

an other thing i do is hold the exercise ball between my feet when i do leg lifts but it seem no matter how much exercise i do, the scale doesn't budge. it just seem my weigh lost doesn't behave normal

If I held the ball between my feet I would probably fall over. Oh wait... you are already on the ground. j/k

The older I get, the harder it is to maintain that ideal weight and figure I once had. I feel your sighs too. I am just about to do another round, then hit the bed. I hope I can keep this up. Or maybe I will skip tonight because it is getting late and I have to be up real early. I am starting to sound like a country song here.

I work at a hardware store. I'm the only man under 50 that works there so I do most of the physical labor... I like it though.

I was at the gym yesterday and a teenager came up to me and asked if I coached football. I had a Miss. St. football shirt on that I had bought when I was there... I said, "I'm not, but thanks anyway". I took it as a compliment.

What you eat is just as important as exercise.

No wonder. Yep, the coach question was a compliment. I always puzzled at first when I read the Miss (as in Mrs.) St. football shirt, until I re read it and got it . Now mind you its a little after 5am and I haven't had my first coffee yet.

I woke up extra early to do my workout video, and had to many aches and pains from yesterdays work out, so you see where I ended up...sitting my butt down and hopping on here. UGH! I really got to get moving.

I agree, eating a proper diet must go hand in hand with an exercise program, or the exercise wont work. At least at my age. The metabolism slows down some. Well ok a lot.

Well then I guess it would kick your butt too!

I'm sure it would, but at my age, I really don't caer.

I did martial arts and stuff when I was younger. It is good physical exercise, except when you get injured, and you're 42 years of age. Then the healing process takes longer than it does for the 20 year old that injured you. As a result, you can't defend yourself because of your injury.

lol, you crack me up
my weight is the most mysterious thing ever. after first kid, lost all the weight effortlessly in 6 months, just by sleeping, eating and nursing. 3 years after second, didn't lose a pound and i didn't sit down nearly as much, let alone sleep or eat. summer 2007 i walked a lot, along with reducing my meal size and walk, and walk... but nothing budged. then in september, after giving up the effort, i did a round of chelation. 2 weeks later, 10 lbs were gone, just like that. then that year, what ever i did change, i lost weight. low carb, -10, reintroduce some carb -5, started walking different, an other 5 gone, cut carbs again... in total i had lost 30 lbs. but came last fall, i started gaining it back, no matter what effort i try to stop the trend reversal
