I like music that can penetrate my soul, and I'm not going to get that with dance music or any other music that is deemed happy. Sad music is where its at for me. And I think most people if they listened to sad music all day they would end up in a psych ward for depression. But sad music doesn't make me sad. It makes me happy and filled with hope and purpose and passion. I am not the only one am I?

Sad Songs (Say So Much)
Elton John

Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know

Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on

They reach into your room
Just feel their gentle touch
When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much

If someone else is suffering enough to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it's easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
and it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues

Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say so much

Music is subjective, for me "sad" music is in the structure of the music its self,a descending minor key pattern perhaps while the lyrics mean nothing to me,i like music with suspended and otherwise altered chords and prefer instrumental music most of the time.

Not for me, bud. Brings me down eventually. But not everyone is the same.

Facing the tears the music causes, is the cure my friend. It's the only way to transcend sadness in my opinion.

I like that response. It can indeed be therapeutic if it softens your heart from all the hurt. Just be open to music that also lifts your spirit, too. His is a Spirit of love, joy, peace, patience... all the good emotions and feelings that arise from abiding in the Spirit of God.

A neat trick is to evoke both sadness and hopefulness. One of the best examples is Eva Cassidy's version of Over The Rainbow. The sadness comes through in the slow tempo and flattened melody harmonized with frequent minor chords. (And the melancholy is amplified by the facts of her sad life story.) Yet she also conveys a sense of serenity and hopeful yearning in her vocal. It's a great performance.

I am totally with you brother! Nothing compares to the cry of the violin or a deep fatal blow to the heart, courtesy of the piano.
I would like to share a few piano pieces, if I may.

Composed by Lucas King, talented lad!

A Sad piece which holds the title, 'Loss'.

Violin, as promised. This one really pierces your soul.

Nope I'm the same way and have joked about this before! Sad music helps cheer me up.
