• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a good book on the Binge Eating Disorder? I know it's a fairly new recognized eating disorder and I've yet to find any books on it. Any books I've found have been more like a diet with rules than on getting to the root of the problem. Any suggestions.:help:

Thank you

You are right. Quality information about binge-eating disorder is scarce. You might have more luck finding books about bulimia, which is basically just binge-eating disorder in disguise. Unfortunately, that is also a misunderstood disorder, so the most common form...the non-purging type) receives far too little attention.

New Hope for Binge Eaters...by Harrison Pope and James Hudson is my recomendation. This book discusses the spectrum of genetically related disorders (OCD, bipolar, panic disorder, alcoholism, depression, bulima/binge-eating, etc. etc. etc.)...leading to the conclusion that antidepressant therapy could be extended to eating disorders. This is a very old book (mid-eighties)...but still informative.

Hope, Help and Healing for Eating Disorders by PH.D Gregory L. Jantz.

This book was very helpful for me. It is a whole-person approach for treating all types of eating disorders. Binge-eating, in this book, is referred to as "compulsive overeating" disorder. It addresses spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects of eating disorders.
Hope this helps.
