No problem thanks

I actually spent years on some Muslim forums talking to muslims to get a sense of what they believe.

By far the most frustrating tactic they use when discussing the Quran or really any Islamic text is the claim "that is an imperfect translation". You ask them about the words of a particular piece of scripture....they claim that you cannot understand the whole meaning because you don't know the original Arabic....and that basically kills any hope for real discussion.

So aside from actually learning Arabic....how can I avoid this problem when discussing Islamic writings?
