BREAKING: @replindabelcher has won the special election in HD49 for the Kentucky House, flipping the seat from red to blue. Congratulations, Linda!"

This one is especially enjoyable, as it's a district Trump won by +49. Linda Belcher just won it by +37. :D

In fairness the previous GOP rep did commit suicide while under investigation for molesting a 17 year old so its not a straightforward race, but this winning thing does seem to be becoming a habit for the Dems recently.

By the way, could some kind person explain to me how you embed tweets here please? Many thanks in advance.

There is not a single domestic election that would in any way be "enjoyable" to me in Britain or France. Not a single one.

THis is all so peculiar.

Was it a male 17 year old, or a female 17 year old?

In a special election in which only 4900 voters cast ballots.

In the previous election, Linda Belcher, the incumbent, lost this seat by 156 votes out of 18,500 votes cast. So she won it back here, but not from the same person to whom she had lost it a little more than a year ago. His widow tried to keep the seat won by her husband in 2016 but could not.

Attempts by widows to keep seats formerly held by their husbands usually don't succeed, but when they do, it normally happens in the case of districts which are 'safe' for the party of the deceased--as in the case of the death of Sonny Bono some years ago. This Kentucky district was not such a district.

Very telling that there are not safe districts in Kentucky.
