Announcer calls high school girls' basketball team racial slur as players kneel during national anthem

An Oklahoma sports announcer was captured during a livestream directing racial slurs and expletives toward members of a girls' high school basketball team who were kneeling during the national anthem.

The racist comments came shortly after Norman High basketball players knelt during the playing of the national anthem before a quarterfinal state tournament game against Midwest City at Sapulpa High School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

After being thrust into the spotlight for the actions of an announcer, the Norman High School girls basketball team made news on its own terms by winning the Oklahoma 6A state championship.

The Tigers (19-0) capped their perfect season with a 48-37 win over Bixby on Saturday.

Just when I start to think no one does such things anymore.

When I was a kid, we were taught against such behaviour by my dad, but he would still make what were then mild racial cracks that would never go over today with most people.

He just didn't completely get it yet, but unlike some, he was trying.
