I couldn't see the video...was this a regular inspection or something criminal?
Guy was in line at customs after coming back from Paris. Claims that, while in line, he was singled out and detained because of his name. Now he feels vulnerable and scared and America ain't what it used to be and so on.

Which is an understandable reaction to being singled out by customs because of one's name. How do we know it's because of his name? Is that what the customs agent said?

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Martin Niemöller
It is notable how the administration from the start has selected particular groups to point the finger and say they are to blame for everything! Most tellingly Trumps claim that millions of 'illegals' voted, not just there were millions of illegal votes. Can you imagine the uproar if he had said millions of Jews voted illegally? But it's okay if you point at at latinos(because that's who he's referring to) and say the same thing it seems.

I'm not sure, that's all the info we're given in that video. The only thing that the customs agent is quoted as saying is "Are you traveling alone? Let's take a walk." Other than that it's just taking this guy's word for it.

The excuse he got was that someone else was using his name. And he was held incommunicado for well over an hour, long after they confirmed his identity, told he could not leave or even make a phone call.

It seems Muslims and Hispanics are the outgroups for the far right these days, replacing blacks, Jews, and homosexuals.

Trump didn't promise to ban Muslims.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR DONALD TRUMP

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on"

But yeah, it is only from his official campaign web site, so it must be fake news.

Is there a confusion between the idea that Trump wants to ban all muslims(which he did not promise) and the promise that he would ban Muslim immigration(which he did promise)
He claimed he wanted to stop all Muslims from entering the US. He didn't make a distinction between current residents and immigrants.

You mean they are not coming for the homosexuals? I find that hard to believe.

How many times did this happen during the campaign? How many times did we have to clarify for his supporters the words coming out of his own mouth?
And we're trying to tell you that you got it wrong. I know all of you backed perfect candidates with no issues whatsoever. I'm man enough to admit that I'm not fully behind Trump and there's a lot I don't like, but a lot of you guys are extremists. You're WAY LEFT field and it's frustrating because it means we cant sit down and come to an understanding. To you, Trump is Hitler. No more, no less. He's Hitler. His concern isn't safety, it's to kill millions of Muslims. This is all a ploy to next introduce detention camps. Pulling people aside at the airport is compared to the Holocaust. Everything Trump does, even to the way he eats his chicken, is blasted on the front cover and twisted to make him into a horrible, evil person.

Well, Trump isn't Hitler. Not even close. We knew what we were in for and we voted for the guy anyway. I wasn't going to vote for someone who called me a irredeemable and deplorable, who has a 30-year career of corruption, and who is married to a real rapist, who she enabled.

We wanted tougher vetting, safer streets, a roaring economy, and all the things Trump outlined. He nominated a conservative judge and has done some great things none of you will even give him an iota of credit for.

The bible is clear. God puts men in power. He chose Trump for whatever reason. You can even say he won by a miracle. Now we have someone in office not afraid to mention God. So hey, keep disobeying the bible about your leaders.

Y'know, you might be right. Let's sit down and talk. What would you like to talk about?

To you, Trump is Hitler.

Oh. Nevermind. You clearly don't want to listen. Let's try again in 4 years.

I love the way we go from "there's no Muslim ban, don't be ridiculous" to "and anyway, Muslims are evil and deserve it" all in the same post.
I never said Muslims are evil. You're doing that selective reading thing again.

Oh jeez. Suddenly he's a victim on the same level as the Holocaust just for being detained at the airport...something that's been going on since 9/11.
We all get to be victims now, don't ya know? ;) If it wasn't this, I'm sure he'd have found another mock outrage. The Dry Cleaners mixed up his order because of some act of discrimination, perhaps.

Really, it's his own fault for travelling into the USA while not-white, and with a vaguely foreign sounding name to boot. He's lucky they didn't just execute him on the tarmac.
I've seen posts and comments from people here and elsewhere who seem to think that would be perfectly reasonable.

What projection? I'm making a point. I'm trying to find some common ground here, but a lot of thoughts around here are so far extreme it's impossible to get anything out of you guys other than hatred and condescension.

He did suggest monitoring all resident Muslims iirc. Not the same as a ban. Equally troubling to any student of history.
