And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may be made blind.”

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains. [John 9:39-41]

The context of this passage can be traced back to John 8:12 where Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” After healing a man who had been blind from birth and imparting salvation to the man, Jesus makes the above statement “Therefore your sin remains” to some Pharisees who in their spiritual blindness had rejected the Savior.

May I say, every person who realizes his or her spiritual blindness becomes a candidate for seeing; those who refuse to recognize their spiritual blindness, place themselves beyond help. To paraphrase verse 41; Jesus said “If you would only admit your blindness, you would not be guilty of sin, because I could forgive it; but because you claim your own self-righteousness, your guilt remains.”

How many people enter church Sunday after Sunday thinking they must be good enough in God’s eyes since they see themselves as righteous. Not righteous in Christ but righteous with in themselves.

Only Jesus can release a person from spiritual darkness and only Jesus can give perfect righteousness that will stand the test of God. Jesus is the light of the world, not a light among other lights, but the light. Religion will not save-- only Jesus saves. Take note, many times those who claim to have spiritual light are the most blind of all. I believe the Pharisees prove that point. What say you?

Jesus truly is the only one who saves.

The pharisees claimed to know the way, but yet refused to believe that Jesus was the son of God. Even after witnessing his power. Our sins can't be forgiven unless we believe in Jesus.

    Amen!

Acts 4:11-12 `This is the stone that was set at nought by you--the builders, that became head of a corner; and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.'

Romans 11:5-6 So then also in the present time a remnant according to the choice of grace there hath been; and if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becometh no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work.

    Ephesians 2:8-9 for by grace ye are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you--of God the gift, not of works, that no one may boast;

    Funny how that works....

The light of Jesus both shows you where you screwed up and cleanses you at the same if you allow it. Interesting I never thought of that before

I say AMEN and AMEN to this anointed with Truth post! We see this daily. Those who claim to be all-wise and possess all knowledge, and refuse any reproof or instruction on the basis of their superior knowledge. This is a hardening of the heart and as long as this self imposed and self willed condition exists the Holy Spirit can do no work there and Jesus cannot deliver the salvation and forgiveness He so freely offers.

The more I know, the more I know that I don't know.  When I know that I don't know is when I ask for what I should know.  Then I recieve what I need to know and I know I won't be free unless I apply it.  Haughtiness, arrogance, ignorance and pride can creep in and rob us.  Only the wise accept correction.

I love that statement, it's so true. There's always something new to learn. We will never know everything, good thing to because if we did our minds would most likely explode lol!

I saw this verse and started repeating John 3:30 to myself. He must increase, but I must decrease. He must increase, but I must decrease. He must increase, but I must decrease.

May we always remember that it's not about us, It's all about Jesus.

Your writing reminds me of Romans 7:15: "For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I."

God Bless You Gerry and the rest of you of course.  I've always been in awe of the power and simplicity of Romans Chapter 7.  It reminds me the simple things of God can baffle the most wise.  Isn't God so Good!!!!

I thank you for this so much.  What you have said here is like a photograph stashed away in my heart.  I took it out and looked at it again and the photograph of "Jesus Saves" brings forth a flood of memories.  It has great meaning to me.

As we learned in Colossians, Jesus is God, always was, always will be. Anything added to His saving power like some of the Colossians try to do, claiming having mysterious special knowledge that no other Christian could possess. In Christ, we have everything we need. Someone said it earlier, we have to minimize ourselves and increase Him, and touch our hearts to His will, in humility and obedience. Sometimes God seems so very real to me, and other times (and i'm attributing this to my own flaw) He seems remote. However, and this is a BIG however, at those times, i am in prayer to Him, asking Him to reveal to me whatever it is that is impeding my progress. ALWAYS, and Forever, I belong to Him. In those times, i'm trusting Him to work with me at, at the spot I am emotionally and spiritually, to draw me closer to Him. Praise Him for His never ending mercy, His patient teaching, and His enduring love.

    Amen Reeann,
And isn't it a blessing to know that we can all obtain the same knowledge of Christ through his Holy Spirit. We must simply ask for our eyes to be opened to the truth.
