Note: I was sitting here thinking and this way of praying the Rosary came to my mind. I take no credit for it. I've seen an alternate way of praying the Rosary, a Lutheran version, that may have inspired this thought; but otherwise credit goes to God. It's not meant to replace the actual Rosary prayers, but is just a faster, simpler, straight to the point, alternative. It is quite Eastern. You don't need to worry about meditating on mysteries, either.
Begin (holding the Crucifix in your left [or right, I guess] hand): Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Crucifix: The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Large Bead: The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
3 Small Beads: O Most Holy Theotokos, save us! (...pray for us! may be substituted for 'save us!', if any Lutheran, Anglican, or otherwise interested user or viewer that may be uncomfortable with this Eastern prayer wants to make use of this alternative version of the Rosary.)
Large Bead: The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Medallion: The (Eastern) Hail Mary:
Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos, Mary full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
for thou hast borne the Savior of our souls.
10 Small Beads: The Jesus Prayer
O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Large Bead: The (Eastern) Hail Mary
Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos, Mary full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
for thou hast borne the Savior of our souls.
*Say the Jesus Prayer on each series of 10 small beads, and the (Eastern) Hail Mary on each large bead all the way around. The Medallion essentially counts as a large bead in this sequence, much like the regular way of praying the Rosary. Once you get back to the Medallion, say the (Eastern) Hail Mary once more.
Conclude (holding the Crucifix): The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
*You will end up saying the Lord's Prayer 3 times, Theotokos save us 3 times, the (Eastern) Hail Mary 6 times, and the Jesus Prayer 50 times.
