  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

These two verses, one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament, are so very encouraging to me. This life here on earth, in so many ways, is so very sad. Most of us have children, relatives and friends who we know, unless something drastic happens, and they wake up before it’s too late, they are most likely not going to be ready to meet Jesus when He comes. That brings much sadness into this life here on earth for many of us.

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth:
and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Isaiah 65:17.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death,
neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21: 14

Thankfully, when Jesus comes and takes us to Heaven, He is going to wipe our memories clean of all the sad things, we won’t remember all the shadows and disappointments of this life...they will all be buried, never more to bring us down.

Hello @The Narrow Way, while I trust that God will do exactly what He has told us He would do (wipe away every tear and bring an end to sorrow, crying, and pain) I, at the same time, wonder how the following knowledge and resulting worship of the Lamb will be possible for us if we have no memory of this world/this life/why we had such a great need for the Lord Jesus to come here and die on our behalf on the Cross?

IOW, if we have no memory of what happened here, how will we be able to understand why Jesus is referred to as the "Lamb of God", why He is "worthy", and/or why He was "slain"?

Revelation 5
11 I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands,
12 saying with a loud voice,
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”
13 And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,
“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”
14 And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

I'm certain that His wonderful promises to us about the age to come will be fulfilled, I'm just not certain 'how' He will do so (not that such knowledge is necessary .. cf Deuteronomy 29:29)

God bless you!

--David

Nice to meet you, David :). I believe the nail prints in Jesus' hands and feet will be a FOREVER reminder of sin....but all the gorey details, we won't be able to recall.

Hello again @The Narrow Way, nice to meet you too :)

I hear what you are saying about His hands and feet being ever present reminders for us of the fact that He was slain, but if we don't know 'why' He was slain/why His death was necessary to save us, then how can we know why we are worshipping Him/why He is "worthy ... to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing”?

It seems to me that while many things about this life will not be remembered by us in the age to come, some things still will be.

Yes, I agree, some things will be remembered, enough to remind us we never want to go down that road again....but the specifics of our lost loved ones, I don't believe that will ever come to mind.

I don't think it's a bad thing. The memories hold our memories of a world infected and infested with sin, since all of this began with "knowing Good and Evil" - amnesia sounds like a reasonable fix.

Also, since we are given new bodies, we would have no memories.

It would be nice to start life anew, embarrassed at the path I have followed.

Our new life can start RIGHT HERE :) And when we get to Heaven, God won't remind us of all our mistakes here, if we have forsaken them :) (if we don't forsake them, we won't get to Heaven.)

Where in the Bible does it say we wil have no memory? God is powerful enough to heal us completely with our memories intact. I feel.

He would be able to do that. However, in Isaiah 65:17 it is said that in the new heaven and new earth the former things will be neither mentioned nor remembered.

So reflecting on why that is, it's probably because of the sin infecting creation would be transmitted to us through our memories.

I do not personally believe we will remember nothing in heaven, and those 2 verses are not convincing in this regard. But what do I know? We'll all eventually find out.

It would be nice to start life anew, embarrassed at the path I have followed.

I also struggle at times when I think of my past sins but do not let this past take hold.

Being convicted of your sins is a good thing in bringing you to Christ but you have to let go of them once you accept Christ and His blood for your sins. Do not hold on to them.

You will still stumble on occasion, sometimes more than others but repent and continue on the path. Do not listen to the accuser who will try to take you away from GOD.

Christ shed His blood for you to live free from your bondage to sin.

Fruits of the Spirit will develop over time and you will learn to hate sin.

Read GOD's word and get too truly knowing HIM. Put the past in the past.

12Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Above passage is a description of your new start.

Peace be to all those in the body of Christ.
