In numerous polls prior to the 2022 mid-term election, Americans say they believe America is on the wrong track, or headed in the wrong direction. With democrats in power in both the executive and legislative level, it makes sense that they would not vote to keep the same people in power, but demand change. But instead of change, we appear to be headed for more of the same if the final vote tally continues to indicate that democrats will continue to be the majority in power.
--------

"Nearly three-quarters of voters in a new poll said they believed things in the U.S. were headed in the wrong direction.

An NBC News poll revealed just 21 percent of voters feel the nation is headed in the right direction, while 74 percent think the opposite.

Over half of respondents, or 58 percent, said they feel “more worried that America’s best years may already be behind us,” while 35 percent feel more confident the best years are still ahead.

About a third of respondents, or 34 percent, said they think the state of the nation will worsen over the next five years. Just two percent more, or 36 percent, said they think things will get better in that same time period, and 21 percent said they think things will stay the same."

The country has been headed in the wrong direction since neo-liberalism took over US policies in the late 70s/early 80s and has continued with only brief reprieve regardless of the party in power.

Just because they think we're on the wrong track doesn't mean they want Republicans to derail it.

There is such a thing as going in a different direction. When a person (or country) realizes they're headed the wrong way, it would only be insanity to willingly continue in that direction.

We may believe that America is on the wrong track, but Americans don't seem to agree about what the right track is. To describe it in very broad terms, the nearly 50/50 split in the Senate tells me that half of us think the country is too far to the right, and half of us think the country is too far to the left.

When the option is between losing an arm or both legs, it isn’t surprising people opted for the less severe option.

It isn’t necessarily an endorsement of the Democrats, rather a criticism of the Republicans. They still haven’t distanced themselves from the man that has caused so many issues and the main players in the Party now aren’t much different or better.

If the Republicans want to do better, then they need to do better.

This is the point that you should try to help nominate candidates who propose a path that most people will think is better. Rather than, say, someone who proposes a Trump path.

The multiple polls indicate that far more people believe we're heading in the wrong direction.

A: 'How do you think your team is going to go this year?'
B: 'Not well. I think we're heading in the wrong direction. Maybe we need a new coach'.
A: 'How about this guy instead?'
B: 'Are you kidding me? He's got no idea whatsoever. No way I'd want him in charge. If that's the choice then my vote goes to the guy we already have'.

Make sense?

You mean a path to actually make America great again? Yeah, I guess we better stick with the current path of continuing to be the laughing stock of the world.

Not if the current path has gotten us record-high inflation, increasing crime, increased poverty, and now closer to nuclear war than at any time in history.
One only needs to look back a couple years to see how much better things were, who was in charge, and where we should look to make things better than they are now.

Inflation is a function of covid and Ukraine. We're all suffering from it. Crime has been dropping since Trump left (do you really want to see the figures? I have them to hand) and I guess you weren't around during the Cuban missile crisis. In any case, Putin throwing his weight around is just that. If you think that a different guy in the WH would make a difference then politics might not be your forté.

A different guy was in the WH just a couple years ago.
What was the price of gas then? (Actual figure, not biden's lie about it being $5)
What was the inflation rate?
Was Russia invading Ukraine?
Was NK on the verge of war with South Korea, and about to conduct another nuke test?

That's a humongous no. Definitely not remotely what I meant.

Well, that's the "Trump path". Was a great 4 years while before biden derailed everything.

Again, covid and the Ukraine are the prime movers in all that. Whoever is in the WH had next to zero control over those. Ditto NK. The planet doesn't orbit around 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Maybe you should keep reminding yourself about that.

Then maybe you should tell the world to stop watching us so closely. Stop holding dollars. Stop wanting to come here. Stop wanting our movies, our weapons (talking to Ukraine here!), our technology (looking at you, China!), and quit looking to us for help when disaster strikes your country.

Doesn't the November 2020 election shenanigans show us that we don't actually vote to be on any track?

AOC was supposedly reelected to an office she has no acumen for.
Allegedly has two degrees, Economics, and Foreign Relations.
Yet when media types wanted to interview this young female bartender who ran unopposed for Congress the first time, the journalists proved they knew more about economics and foreign relations than AOC.

AOC sought to sponsor a cost of living pay raise for all members of Congress when she was a Freshman.
She makes over $100 thousand a year and wants more?

Pelosi accompanied her as AOC addressed the press about her pursuit.
Afterward either Pekosi forgot she was hot mic'd or didn't care, but she could be heard reprimanding AOC saying of her push for a salary hike, that's not how we make our money!

Career politicians. Senator Bryd when he died being the longest serving Senator in our history, show us we've not put them into office all those decades they're there.

Those who make them their money get their monies worth. They're not going to start over with all new incumbents.

"Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything." Joseph Stalin

Your premise assumes only two directions. Perhaps the majority of Americans see the direction that Republicans wish to take America as worse than the direction that Democrats are taking the country? They're choosing the lesser of two evils, to use the common political trope.

If I had to describe that post in one word in would be plaintive.

Listen up...holding any particular currency is a function of the strength of that county's economy

'The dollar is strong because the US economy is healthier than those of many other countries...' Why is the dollar so strong and what does it mean? | Fidelity

Doesn't quite fit your narrative, does it. And if you think you have immigration problems then maybe you don't read much about Europe, which has had, per head of population, a much greater problem.

And you don't want to help Ukraine? The rest of the world is doing their bit but I guess you'd rather leave it to the rest of us. Good to know at least. And you wonder why Putin would love a Republican president.

And helping other countries? Here's a link to a list of the 30 largest countries who make an effort to help others, graded by a percentage of gross national income: List of development aid country donors - Wikipedia

Shall I tell you who comes last?

You need to get real, my friend.

Edit: Correction, the US is not last - it's fifth from last. Spending about 2/3 of what Australia does per head.
