Hello my American friends,
I'm really sad that you're all going through this.
Feeling insecure?
Neighbourhood crime going up?
The poor starting to litter the streets?
This is why.

NB: Before anyone calls me a Socialist
I'm strictly Ordo-liberal / Social-Liberal (same thing.) Basically, if the State offers good enough Education & Healthcare & Welfare - then the market can do pretty much everything else.

But that IS socialism by US standards. In fact there are many in this country, some in this forum, who would feel justified in calling you a Marxist.

I've been known to work 90 hours a week on occasion. Hard, physical work too.

...But it's doubletime after 8 hours. So I would end up with like 50 or 60 hours of doubletime, which is at a rate of $120. an hour.

(It's worth it)

A few months ago, out of curiosity, I went looking for comparative country figures on mandated employee benefits like annual leave, sick leave, personal leave, parental leave etc. I remember the shock as I gradually saw that, for American workers, none of these things are mandated. This includes a reasonable minimum wage and a defined work week.

Along with the health care issue, low wages and the lack of basic entitlements, which we take for granted, this seems to help explain the social turmoil which is gripping your country.

Oh, double time! I would have definitely agreed to that!

Sometimes, on occasion, I cane make close to $10,000 in a single week. And if I adjust my w-4, I can take it all home.

Pretty good for an uneducated dummy like me. :)

(But it is hard, hard work)

Which shows how blinkered the entire country is.
Joe Biden is a 'radical socialist' but he would fit neatly into Australia's Liberal party. Indeed, because he doesn't necessarily stand for universal government healthcare - he would probably be on the far right of our Liberal party!

America is a very peculiar place.

Me too. Which is reasonable, as long as it's for a wage that we've agreed to. IMO
Is it reasonable for your family and kids if the employer starts to expect that?
Is it reasonable if you're willing to do that, but the employer starts to call anyone who doesn't do that a part-time casual employee?

And since when oh when did the American government outsource their healthcare obligations to corporations to add on as 'benefits'?

Again, America is a very peculiar place.

I think it comes from the same book of "Grim" Fairytales as the idea that, with 9 times as many cases as almost every other country in.the world, we are winning the war on COVID. If it were not so tragically dangerous, the idea that people believed it would almost be funny.

It's the same with the idea that our people are the most prosperous on earth. Nope. Healthiest? Nope. Best educated? Nope. Happiest? Nope.

Just Grim Fairy Tales. Real news will.set you free.

so?

The braggadocio of Americans and the "look how many hours I've work" is not really healthful. Work life balance is an amazing thing that actually makes people healthier.

Of course, but it's nice to know the extra money is there to be had if you want it.

Americans are so lucky that almost all of them can earn $120 an hour like you do.

I'm sure that a US average hourly wage of $120/hour is reflected in the link in the OP.

Isn't that kind of like blood money, like selling off your own blood?
