Am I Wrong in This Thinking?

People (not Christians although may not matter) keep telling me I am wrong and this is 2018 and I should get up with the times and stop being stuck in the 1950s (but I do use computers).

What do people tell me I am wrong to think? They say I am wrong to think that:

> companies/organizations/etc should not expect everyone to own a mobile device (so many websites require you to enter in a cell number when not all of us do)
> they should not expect everyone to have a social media page (I was trying to sign up to a site for roommates but you have to verify with social networking which I have none of and will not)
> they should not expect everyone to use self checkout, which I HATE and I refuse to use and if a choice between self checkout or leaving all my items where I stand and walk out, i do the latter EVERY TIME (Walmart has two self check out areas constantly packed, and someone time human cashier lane open out as the other 11 lanes empty, because Walmart is trying to remove all human cashiers completely)
> they (along with anyone who wants money from you like dentist, lawyers, etc) should not expect that everyone has money to burn and not offer manageable payment plans
> they should not expect people to still use cash and not be surprised by it
> they expect people to just enjoy not having 0 to press to speak to a human, instead of an auto attendant that keeps on taking and asking you to press numbers, only to finally reach a human hour later who just asks the same questions (I despise not speaking to a human right away on a call since the late 90s)

What do you think about my thinking??

I agree 100% with everything. I have no social media. Seems like a ‘look at me’ contest more than anything. I pay cash for everything too. I never use credit, loans, or anything of that nature and am so frustrated about trying to find a place to live because of it. I just want to be able to pay for it in full, and not be robbed of money in the form of ‘property tax’ just to fund more bombings, needless wars, and other things for the fallen system we live under. I don’t like the idea of renting, because I’ve heard more than once about the rent being jacked up on people out of nowhere and they have to leave and find somewhere more affordable. They can and do raise rent at any time, a guy was telling me how his old place suddenly doubled the rent on him.

Seems as if the push for all this electronic and digital stuff by the powers that be is in order to more thouroghly monitor everything we do, everywhere we go, all under the guise of ‘convenience’. It’s also big revenue too. Things like computers, phones, and other electronics become outdated quicker and quicker..planned obsoleting.

It is quite ridiculous how in this fallen system people are expected to have things like money to burn and expensive mobile devices when most jobs in America are low wage service industry/retail jobs. Many people are one or two missed paychecks away from homelessness. Can’t wait until Christ returns, I’m at my wits end and don’t feel like being a hamster in a wheel or jumping through hoops just to make greed driven control freaks even richer.

I agree to this. All it will take is a massive power outage and we are left with companies not caring bills are overdue. Companies can not produce water because they have no power. Companies will not transport food because no one can pay for it, especially electronically. The negative things tech does, and my coworkers make fun of me for all this because I work for one of the world's largest leaders in technology. Believe me, was not a choice since I had different career paths in mind. Still, beats working at a sinful abortion clinic, or worse... the DMV..... scary.....

The thing about lawyers and doctors is that we have decided to go with "free market competition" (which isn't really a free market for these services) and it's a big mistake. Everyone gets sick...and those who need a lawyer the most simply cannot afford one. Health insurance companies are motivated by profit...and as there is no reasonable competition, it doesn't matter how much they charge for a poor product, you're stuck buying it.

We should end free market healthcare and make considerable changes to legal representation.

Other than CF, and a couple of other discussion boards, I have no on-line presence--no FB page, no Instagram, no WhatsApp, no Twitter account. I don't understand why anyone would be interested in seeing a photo of what I had for dinner. And I would never, ever announce to the world that I'll be on vacation for 2 weeks.

But I do pay about half of my bills on-line. And I do use 2 credit cards for convenience. But I get cash back with both. And I always pay them off every month and never run a balance. When you do that, you earn money using the cards. Which is as it should be. The card companies collect a fee from the merchants every time I charge something. So it's only right that the card issuer should give me a rebate for using his card.

You reminded me of something, and I will look it up later. I think a money transfer program called Vemo was showing everyone who was sending money to whom. So, financial social networking?? I need to look that up.

I sympathize. I have no social network presence, only here. I do pump my own gas and occasionally self checkout. I have two credit cards that have really good rewards features. I don't carry any balance on either ever, so I am deemed a "deadbeat" *. I do however have an 830 credit rating.

I do pay cash (check) for dental services as my dentist gives a 5% discount for such.

You don’t have to do any of that if you don’t want to. But if you don’t adopt the technologies that have become commonplace - if not integral - to everyday life, you can’t expect to be able to function as efficiently as an employer or roommate might need you to.

Tech that exists when you’re a child is just a natural part of the world, tech that’s developed between ages 10-30 is exciting and revolutionary, and everything developed after that is the devil that will surely destroy humanity. The people who resist new technologies as they emerge are the same types who resisted the invention of books because they were “teaching kids not to memorize anything anymore.”

Like I said, you don’t have to adopt any technology that makes you uncomfortable. But it’s going to cost you some opportunities.

1. I dont have a mobile phone. not gonna get one just so people can call me at all hours no matter where I am. If you need to talk to me, email or leave a phone message & ill get back to you... eventually..."if" I want to talk to you

2. I dont have facebook etc.. If I wanted that level of drama in my life, im perfectly capable of creating my own.

3. I dont use self-checkout for a reason... if you insist, then you get to explain to your store manager how the shutdown of an entire stores computer network happened.. yes.. that is well withing the range of my uncontrolled dark powers over computers.... (Note.. Mac's seem to be reasonably resilient to this effect. hence why im even able to reply on here today)

4 I expect to get paid in full & on time for work I do so I don't expect differently from others. I have bills to pay and they don't get paid if I don't get paid... so if I understood the comment correctly, then I would have to disagree somewhat on this one.

5 Cash is money. if you dont want my money then ill go find somebody who does.

6 apparently if you hit the # key on a lot of automated answer systems, it will put you straight through to a person. of course why they cant just give you the option up front is beyond me. I dont want to speak to freaking skynet.

Resisting tech methods do I is humorous to other humans, being I work in IT/storage for one of the world's largest tech companies.
I just know too much about how things are sued that people do not yet understand from the inner workings of things that scifi movies have yet prepared people for.
But as far as social networking, other companies force it on people for registration to pay a bill, for example, so they can keep storing as much of your person info and later own it because you willing to give it up. At the boom of the Internet i spent years trying to keep my personal info offline. info that was being sold from companies like NYNEX selling ti to thousands of the lowest bidders. Eventually I had to give up as I did not have the manpower to call every single company anymore to remove it, especially since companies then started to ignore calls, ignore emails, and all together just did not post easy customer service info and the only way to find a phone number was to dig deep into public and private organizational records. Oh, the few times I actually freaked people out by taking a plane flight to their company when they refused to help me and I told them, "see you tomorrow," and then they did. Good times... good times.
Anyway.... what was I saying? Oh yea, companies force people to give up their personal info way too much. Not my loss as I find most work arounds. Their loss for not knowing things about me that are only stored in the minds of the deceased.

I have heard that some employers are checking the FB, and other social media pages of job applicants. Apparently to determine if anything they’ve posted could suggest they would be a problematic, or unfit employee. I’m not sure what to think about this. If a FB user’s site isn’t limited only to certain friends, then anything posted is available for all to see. It’s not an invasion of privacy if an employer want to access it. But is there any evidence that social media postings are at all related to someone’s job performance?

Like I said, you don’t have to adopt any technology that makes you uncomfortable. But it’s going to cost you some opportunities.

That depends on what you do for a living, and in other areas as well. My job is low tech and requires few high tech gadgets. I still hunt with a "stick and string", recurve bow. I don't like either the compound bow or the crossbow, although I certainly could kill more deer with them. I don't have or need a smartphone or laptop either, or an SUV. I also have no need for a CNC machine or 3D printer.

I be the type of person to use a 3D printer to make more nunchucks in my collection (I do martial arts, so I have had hand weapons for decades).

1) It depends. Before I went to college I worked in a retail type job and didn’t own a phone, just a landline. And for a while after I didn’t get one. But I have a professional job now and I am expected to be accessible whether I’m at my desk or not. Granted, my company has offered to give me one, but I just prefer to use my personal phone.

2) Again, depends. I use LinkedIn, which has my resume, license info, and education. I don’t know how much harder it would’ve been to get a job without it. I also use Facebook, which is how I get a lot of professional contacts and links. However if you’re not in certain fields it won’t matter as much.

3) This I 100% agree with. If there’s an error in the code or a missing product I have no recourse with a computer. If there’s a person there I can get the issue resolved.

4) As to payment plans, yeah, they should. I understand why they don’t, but this does mean a lot of services are out of reach for some.

5) I have mixed feelings about cash, but if you run a business you should accept it. Just came back from Japan, where it’s all cash. Was kinda nice. No computer issues, no arguing with cards, the only issue was the change built up quite a bit. Still got ¥173 I couldn’t get rid of.

6) Freaking hate the phone. Hate automated menus. But c’est la vie.
