Internationally, we know from which group the threat comes, islamists and a culture that is horrifically disrespectful towards its female population.

I don't know. If we invested the money we're currently using on defense into alternative energy sources and increasing energy efficiency at home, it would certainly make the Middle East a lot less useful to us. Not sure what the correct balance is, but it is worth exploring at the very least.

Especially when you release the blueprints like the polio vaccine and then everyone can get away from oil. That will take the pressure off for everyone to keep the Mideast stable and then they can go through the, most likely brutal, process of really establishing a post ottoman greater Arabia.

If you think Christians are the more violent ones in the world currently, you're deluding yourself.

Western nations often have the luxury of inflicting their violence from a distance. Does that make it less heinous, less violent? To cut off a person's head with a sword is a very personal act while leaving a landmine to blow up a random stranger is not - but the dead person is just as dead. I think the quantity of people we managed to kill with drones and blanket bombs (white phosphorus, anyone?) is probably a lot greater than the quantity executed by hand or by gun or suicide bomber.
