Of course let's ignore where the new variant was discovered...and pretend Biden is punishing African countries for being black.

What a crock of a thread.
Personally by reading this thread and trying to understand it, it does show he is being consistent.

He promotes punitive measures for Americans who don't get the vaccine and now imposes punitive measures for Africans because those populations where the vaccine is available also largely not wanting the vaccine.

Dr. John Campbell of Cambridge University in reviewing Dr. Angelique Coetzee of the South African Medical Association work, brings up the topic of African reluctance to getting the vaccine. He brings up this very important point soon after the 4 minute mark. "If Africa is not going to be vaccinated you will see new variants come up":

The way it's looking, unless Biden can come up with 9 billion triple doses of vaccine, this disease is here to stay.

I thought it was Trump who said we needed more immigrants from Norway and not "s-h" countries? But that was immigration, not travel. Why would any one spend money to encourage potentially infected people to travel here.

You post makes no sense.

It was a Poe.

So you want to play this game again...

Without any adjustment for age (as your number has none), the typical death rate for influenza infections in the US is a little more than 1 death per 1000 infected persons. (Something like 1.2, or so, but the data isn't that precise.)

99.5% survivability is 0.5% fatality or 5 deaths per 1000 COVID infections. This is 4-5 times more deadly on a case-by-case basis than influenza.

Variants can be contained. By vaccination. To lessen transmission and bad outcomes (hospitalization, death, long COVID).

Variants can be prevented by stopping infections. If no one gets infected, no new mutations will occur.

[Approximately 0.1%, or 1 in 1000 of all Americans have already *died* of COVID. Certainly all of them have not been infected.]

At this point, variants may not be stoppable. That cow may be permanently out of the barn as it is for the Spanish Flu (which was H1N1). A hundred years ago, however, we did not know how to develop a vaccine for a virus (we didn't even know what a virus was).

Today, the problem has been the inability of the nations to get the virus delivered quickly enough to the world (even discounting anti-vaxxers). That's what needs to be worked on right now, for the next dangerous virus if not for this one.

What a crock of a thread.
Do you remember when Biden called Trump xenophobic for implementing a travel ban on China because of Covid?

Good times.

yes, I do. Trump's political strategy relies on xenophobia.
Biden's does not.

To imply other wise is simply disingenuous.

I understand that in S. Africa, vaccine supply is not the issue, rather, district of vaccines. But I agree, the rest of Africa needs vaccines now. The pandemic has further accentuated the gap between the haves and have nots.

May be if Trump didn’t lie to the country for months but explain the danger of covid-19 , Biden and rest of us would have agreed with Trump. But Trump lied about COVID-19 in Jan and Feb 2020.

This is what Trump said about COVID-19 back in Jan -Feb 2020

"We have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine," he said. Trump Jan 22, 2020

“China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!” Trump Jan 24, 2020

“I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.” Trump Feb 10, 2020

“Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.” Trump Feb 10, 2020

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… the Stock Market starting to look very good to me!” Trump , Feb 24, 2020

"It's going to disappear. One day — it's like a miracle — it will disappear," Trump Feb 27, 2020

But ignore what Trump said , and attack Biden. That works in Trump country!

You hit the nail on the head -

An authoritarian government will use punishment to impose their will on the people.

Yet you took your vaccine voluntarily, correct?

I had the CHOICE to - I was free without compulsion, nor threat of punitive actions. I made the choice of my own FREE WILL.

That is the difference between a free nation and an authoritarian state.

Cite one case where the US government forced an individual to be vaccinated.

Trump Administration Adds Six Countries to Travel Ban (Published 2020)
published Jan 30, 2020 and updated April 2021

The administration has argued that the ban, enacted in 2017 to restrict travel from Muslim-majority countries, is necessary to ensure that countries satisfy security requirements for travel into the United States, or face restrictions until they do.

The expansion of the restrictions, which already affected more than 135 million people in seven countries, is likely to hinder more than 12,300 potential immigrants in the next year from resettling, finding work or reuniting with their families in the United States. The effect on Nigeria, not only Africa’s most populous country but also its largest economy, could be particularly severe. The United States issued more than 7,920 immigrant visas to Nigerians in the 2018 fiscal year, the second-most of any African country......

But it also comes as the 2020 election heats up. Mr. Trump is expected to use his travel ban, as well as his efforts to cut refugee admissions, to rally his political base as his administration contends with a Senate impeachment trial. Some of the most vulnerable populations in the world had one door to the United States shut last fall when Mr. Trump lowered his cap on refugee admissions to 18,000, down from 30,000 in the year prior. The administration has also severely restricted the ability for migrants to obtain asylum at the southwest border.

Kamala Harris was commenting on Trump's immigration ban from some African countries as an extension of his "Muslim ban". It was based on religion and race.

That is a far cry from enacting a ban to hopefully keep the US safe from a possible bad variant of Covid- 19.

Of interest is that the top nine countries regarding HIV prevalence are in southern Africa- which means conditions are there for a variant to develop with many mutations for which the vaccine will not work.

COVID-19: Emergence of Omicron variant could be down to 'reservoirs' of virus in the unvaccinated and immunosuppressed

He said: "This virus is a plastic virus - in other words, it tends to mutate very readily.

"And under conditions where it is mutating - particularly in people who might be partially immunosuppressed, in other words where they're not getting rid of the virus - that remnant virus which remains will be selectively enriched to escape immunity and to become more transmissible.

"So I think that's probably where it does arise - to a large extent unvaccinated people because they're a reservoir of the virus, the virus multiplying, and also to a large extent people who are immunosuppressed or partially immunosuppressed because they're not clearing the virus when they do get infected."
Omicron is suspected of being highly transmissible.

Both bans in question have to do with the virus. When Trump did it, it was racist. When Biden does it, it’s for safety.

It’s pure hypocrisy. I can’t see why those on the left just can’t admit it.
