• Welcome to Christian Forums
  1. Welcome to Christian Forums, a forum to discuss Christianity in a friendly surrounding.

Your voice is missing! You will need to register to be able to join in fellowship with Christians all over the world.

We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.
  7. There has been an addition to the announcement regarding unacceptable nick names. The phrase "Let's go Brandon" actually stands for a profanity and will be seen as a violation of the profanity rule in the future.

A travel ban is unlikely to completely contain this variant, though it might give a very useful delay.

A delay that would allow us to determine how contagious it is, how dangerous it is, if it can evade (partially or fully) any immunity granted by prior infections or vaccines, and if our regular testing for international travel will identify it. These will allow us to appropriately deal with the consequences of this variant of the virus.

"The news about this new variant should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations," Biden said in a statement.

There is a word missing above about what the controversial issue is, it should read like this:

"The news about this new variant should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have forced global vaccinations," Biden said in a statement.

Why not require the same thing for the Flu?

Flu can be spread by migratory birds which on either side of this issue, we would agree it is impossible to stop. So how possible is it to produce a vaccine for 9 billion people?

I tend to believe it's like shuffling deck chairs on the unsinkable Titanic.

Are you saying that the President's statement was edited, or are you trying to edit the President's statement?

Because it's an order of magnitude less deadly, has far fewer long term bad outcomes and much more effective treatments.

I edited it for discussion purposes.

One aspect within the discussion is, when does the good of one outweigh the good of the many compared to when does the good of many outweigh the good of the one?

Death on the other hand is not curable.

A good reason to avoid COVID infections and to get vaccinated.

I'm sure if the threat had sprung up in Norway, Biden would have started mass mailing them plane tickets to the US.

You posted this on a different thread, so I will repost my reply:

All of these cases are linked to recent travel from southern Africa. No "community transmission" in the UK. Yet.

Look, the whole issue of trying to stop variants is ridiculous.

Viruses constantly mutate, that’s what they do, that’s what they’re known for – all you have to do is look at the flu virus - every year there’s variants, and every year they have to modify the flu vaccine because of that.

Variants are never going to stop, and can’t be contained.

And the CDC has admitted that the COVID virus has a 99.5% survivability rate, so the fear mongering needs to stop.

The way they talk and spread fear about the COVID virus, you’d think it had a 99.5% death rate.

    You are correct.

On the other hand, that's how the loss of freedom takes place. The first encroachments are more or less reasonable under emergency circumstances, but the next one less so, and gradually the government assumes absolute control. We see the pattern with the Biden administration, and it's not even a year old yet.

So you want to play this game again...

Without any adjustment for age (as your number has none), the typical death rate for influenza infections in the US is a little more than 1 death per 1000 infected persons. (Something like 1.2, or so, but the data isn't that precise.)

99.5% survivability is 0.5% fatality or 5 deaths per 1000 COVID infections. This is 4-5 times more deadly on a case-by-case basis than influenza.

Variants can be contained. By vaccination. To lessen transmission and bad outcomes (hospitalization, death, long COVID).

Variants can be prevented by stopping infections. If no one gets infected, no new mutations will occur.

[Approximately 0.1%, or 1 in 1000 of all Americans have already *died* of COVID. Certainly all of them have not been infected.]
