adopting within the family

Has anyone gone through this?
How did it go for you and how long did it take?
My husband would like to adopt my daughter as her father isn't in her life and I'm pretty sure I can get his consent since he's not one to fight for anything.
I know some couples who were able to adopt their nephews/nieces fairly quickly and others who took two years or more to adopt their own grandkids.
What's your story?

completely different question but does your daughter want to be adopted and end the potential for a relationship with her birth dad?

She's very open to it.
She started calling him "Daddy" when we were dating because she wanted to see us married so she could finally have a dad in her life.
Her biological father is in a federal prison and has been since about a month before she was born.
Last time he called she didn't want to talk to him, she just wanted to wait until we got home to see her "real daddy."

My parents have adopted four children. I'm from Canada, but I can share a little about the experiences as I remember them if you like. Currently, they are looking into adopting another little girl they are fostering. It's exciting!

it was the child's idea in the news story
have seen other adoption family news stories and it means SO much to the kids so hope it works out for your family
