NEWARK (AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey today praised a decision by U.S. District Court Judge Freda L. Wolfson protecting the religious expression rights of students. The court held that a Frenchtown Elementary School student had the right to sing the song "AwesomeGod" at a school talent show. The ACLU-NJ submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the student.
Wonders if the ACLU detractors would have a problem if the judge used the ACLU submittal in its ruling?
This is a great example of the exactly what the ACLU consistently does. They either represent individuals or advise the court on individual rights.
Why are they constantly misrepresented and why don't people understand individual rights?
(just a note - the student was represented by the ADF but it is obvious that the ACLU would have done the same and agreed that this was a clear violation of individual religious rights)
