Forty years ago today---February 14th, 1980---I arrived at Lackland Air Force Base to begin Basic Training.

And I was one scared 19-year old kid, lemme tell ya!

That's me below, right under the arrow.....fresh from my very first G.I. haircut. It was a great style: cool, easy to maintain, and strikingly neat.

49 of us got our heads shaved in 5 1/2 minutes !!!

I spent time at many Bases, but as a Marine Brat, they were mostly Navy/Marine Bases. My favorite was NAS Millington in Tennessee
