Cut Short In Righteousness

Romans 9:28. For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,
Because the LORD will make a short work upon the earth.

Will The Lord cut short the work because of wickedness in the world,
or lawlessness within the church?
2 Peter 3:
11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and
the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Many modern translations of verse 12 make a statement rather than propose a question, such as the NIV:
2 Peter 3:12. as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.
That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements
will melt in the heat.
Suggesting that we desire to see the day of the Lord and may in so doing,
“speed its coming”. This would seem to contradict the previous statement:

2 Peter 3:9. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
As well his conclusion:
V. 15: and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation.

Does a church overly concerned with the second coming hasten the day? Does a church overly concerned with seeing “signs of the times” become a sign of the times?

Amos 5:18. Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord!
For what good is the day of the Lord to you?
It will be darkness, and not light.

Matthew 24:12. And because lawlessness will abound,
the love of many will grow cold.

1 Peter 4:17. For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

The great and terrible Day of the Lords fiery wrath, Joel 2:30-31, is better put in:
2 Peter 3:7 By Gods Word, the present heavens and earth are being kept for burning on the Day of Judgment, when the godless will be destroyed. Isaiah 66:15-17
This forthcoming Day is described in over 100 Bible prophesies. It will mostly affect the Middle East region and will be triggered by an Islamic attack upon Israel. Psalms 83

It will be the next prophesied event, proved by Isiah 61:2, where Jesus stopped before saying; the day of the vengeance of our God....

The Great Day of God Malachi 4:
1 For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven,
And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,
Says the Lord of hosts,
That will leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
3 You shall trample the wicked,
For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
On the day that I do this,
Says the Lord of hosts.

4 Remember the Law of Moses, My servant,
Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel,
With the statutes and judgments.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
6 And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

Hebrews 1:9. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

Titus 2:
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

2 Timothy 2:19. Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal:
The Lord knows those who are His,” and, Let everyone who names the name of Christ
depart from iniquity.

2 Thessalonians 2:
7 For the secret of lawlessness is already operating. Only when the present detainer may be coming to be out of the midst,
8 then will be unveiled the lawless one (whom the Lord Jesus will despatch with the spirit of His mouth and will discard by the advent of His presence),
9 whose presence is in accord with the operation of Satan, with all power and signs and false miracles"
10 and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation.

Matthew 13:41. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness.
