I usually avoid politics, but sense it is such a prominent subject everywhere in these days, I will share a thought that might engender some constructive thinking (though probably only debates ---which we should try to avoid in sharing opinions).

I think a new type government might get more cooperation from the two major extremes ---liberals and conservative. I wondered if a combination Republican-Democratic Socialism could work, as found in different forms in some countries. Of course it all depends on how it was defined ---which would be a worthy challenge???

Canada has both a Conservative and a Liberal Party but we also have a very strong social democratic party. This strong third party has led in some elections to a minority government. This has mitigated the excesses of a government with a strong majority and has led to political compromise. It has worked well for us.

Considering that on many key points, we have directly opposing philosophies, a new government wouldn't accomplish a thing. If anything, the problem is that the country is far too large to successfully prioritize federal over local government. There are too many opposing philosophies and cultures at play to form a truly unified body. Ideally, the United States should return to a pre-federalist state, where we're made up of independent states that can make their own decisions, without an overarching Imperial body breathing down our necks. That way, liberal cultures in the US can live in Liberal Areas, and Conservative in Conservative. People with similar values can rule themselves.

Ok what you are looking for is called national socialism, it's compatible with democracy and Constitutional republics but it's not the same thing. Conservative and liberal are terms that reference change, if your happy with how things are with high confidence you are conservative, probably a strict constructionalist. If you want social, legal and political change on a major scale your liberal or progressive. If you want European national socialism you want to be in charge with the government deciding everything and anything above what you need for basics in the national treasury, usually supporting a broad array of aristocrats.

Let's do it today, I can be one of your henchmen.

National Socialism (Nazi) is fascism which is a very far cry from modern European style democratic socialism.

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini.

This is quite the opposite of socialism.

There are lots of Social Democratic parties. This seems a reasonable name for a new centrist party.

List of social democratic parties - Wikipedia

Bernie Sanders prefers the label "democratic socialist" for his leftist (in US terms) movement.

I don't think Bernie Sanders has the same thoughts for a moderate socialististic government. He seemed to want everything done by government, which is extreme and borders on fascism, it seems (though I don't want to be talking about Bernie here).

A good government should have both extremes, since that is the make-up of mankind as many psychological studies show ---the innate conservative and innate liberal. Both make a significant contribution to a wholistic view of issues. Well, maybe there is no hope of improvement 'til the Lord Jesus, the Christ of God comes and establishes His perfect reign.

I agree that there is no "hope" for a one-party government in the US.

Doesn't the USA have a one party government right now, at least at the federal level? Republicans control the house, the senate and the white house.

Not even close

First, almost always, there is not full party control. That is, all the members of a party rarely follow the leaders.

Secondly, there are checks and balances from the courts, even one party has a large majority in the House and Senate.

In the current condition, Republicans have had great trouble passing any legislation without Democratic votes, even when only a majority was needed. For almost all votes after September 30, 60 votes are required for passage in the Senate. Republicans have 52 votes.
