The state of Israel has been building walls continuously since 1967.Walls to the south in Sinai, walls to the westalong the entire Gaza strip.Walls to the north along itsborder with Lebanon and walls along the west bank.This is a land surrounded by walls built bye people in fear of thier lives.They dont dwell carelessly.

Israel will eventually gain the plunder of apparel and such.
After this, swords will be beaten into plowshares and Satan has been bound -the nations will not make war during this time.

The Jews are going to be at ease when cleaning up the land of the dead bodies of Gog's army frr 7 months - so it won't be during the great tribulation time of the 7 years, but at the very beginning of the 7 years.

The prophecies concerning Gog and Magog is pretty typical of the cryptic nature of the Old Testament prophets. The figurative 'unwalled villages' is most likely due to a treaty with the Antichrist, sometimes the covenant with death. As war, famine and plague are raging everywhere they will be living in peace and safety. Then half way through the tribulation he breaks the covenant and turns against Israel. From the north, the indication being the far north, comes an army that seizes an opportunity to move on the Middle East. When the Antichrist rages against Israel after the abomination that causes desolation he is handed his first significant loss, described as the land opening up and swallowing an army. Gog and Magog are a complete mystery to me, they are still active somehow after the millennial kingdom:

When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Rev. 20:7-10)
