Attributed to Thales circa 600 B.C.! So new is not the right modifier. Philosophy of mind is the field with the most references in research. From a scientific standpoint it might be hard to prove since definitionally it is a non-physical being! Since science is the study of material things it would be hard to imagine what experiment could verify or falsify any claim or causal relation.

I'd doubt they would make the jump from conscious universe to God. If they were it would be ancient aliens or something

True,
A horse will especially ignore bitter water and lead its ally to a place where sweet water is abundant.
And the place of sweet water is always accompanied by a tree.
Such a bond of trust between rider and horse is a valuable aspect.
