A Christmas blessing

In case anyone comes here in the next few days feeling alone, and everyone seems to be somewhere else, having fun, and it feels as if you are the only person in the world not invited to the feast: a blessing for you.

When he came to us as man
the Son of God scattered the darkness of this world,
and filled this holy time with his glory.
May the God of infinite goodness
scatter the darkness of our lives
and brighten our hearts with holiness.

God sent his angels to shepherds
to herald the great joy of our Saviour's birth,
may he fill us with joy
and make us heralds of his Gospel.

When the Word became man,
Earth was joined to heaven.
May he give us his peace and goodwill,
and fellowship with the heavenly host.

May Almighty God bless us all;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Blessings of St Stephen's day to everyone, and happy name day to anyone called Stephen (or Etienne). Stephen was the very first Christian martyr.

All of which only means, Christians have never had easy lives, and never will. What we have is Christ beside us all the way.

Acts tells the story of how Stephen was tried by the Sanhedrin for blasphemy against Moses and God (Acts 6:11) and speaking against the Temple and the Law (Acts 6:13-14) (see also Antinomianism) and was then stoned to death (c. A.D. 34-35) by an infuriated mob encouraged by Saul of Tarsus, the future Saint Paul: "And Saul entirely approved of putting him to death" (8:1). [2]. Stephen's final speech is presented as making an accusation against the Jew of continuing to persecute prophets who spoke out against their sins:
'"Which one of the Prophets did your fathers not persecute, and they killed the ones who prophesied the coming of the Just One, of whom now, too, you have become betrayers and murderers." (7:52)
