This is what was added to Statement of Purpose in the News and Political forums of D&D (Current News&Events, General Politics, News&Current Events, American Politics, General Politics and International politics):

An Exception to the Profanity rule:
Some profanity will be allowed in a limited way as described below:
  • This exception is limited to profanity in linked articles only, not opinion pieces and not stand alone videos.
  • Videos that are embedded in the linked articles will be allowed.
  • Quotes in the linked article containing profanity will be from public figures such as political leaders, and not in the commentary by the author of the article or a non-public figure.
  • This wil be limited to the Discussion & Debate areas.
  • The link will be allowed but any quotes quoting the profanity will not be allowed in the member's post nor will it be allowed in the Thread Title, including using an asterisk or any other punctuation to partially censor the word.
The problem is that we have public figures using profanity today, and there are articles about that public figure's statements that should/could be discussed.

Let me give you an example.

A member wants to discuss this article and posts it:
What Were The Bidens Doing In Ukraine? 5 Questions Answered

The linked article includes:
"I said, 'You're not getting the [$1 billion]. I'm leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you're not getting the money.' Well, son of a b****. He got fired," Biden said.

As it is in the article, it will be okay. What will not be okay is posting that quote in the post separately, or using that phrase/word in any other way.

It is unfortunate that the use of profanity has grown in public speech. We will try this and see how it goes, and if there is a problem, revert back to no profanity whatsoever.

If the article is too profane, it will get removed.

Including the profanities from Trump then it seems.

But question: what about YouTube videos?

Can users post a Youtube video of Trump saying the profanities, such he is reported to have done yesterday?

It seems like that's allowed, but some may need it clarified.

We have just added a rule regarding videos, as well:

New rule regarding videos

Unless it is a music video, there should be a commentary about the video - some type of summary.

Under #3 is:
"I said, 'You're not getting the [$1 billion]. I'm leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you're not getting the money.' Well, son of a b****. He got fired," Biden said.

As it is in the article, it will be okay. What will not be okay is that member then quoting that part of the quote in their post separately, or using that phrase/word in any other way.

Questions?

Can we say B**** like you did?

As an aside, censorship doesn't work. CF already has Christians walled off from the real world so they won't have to deal with the crassness of humanity. Why not just leave the rest of us alone?

Please stay on topic, folks. We won’t report posts, but we will delete them. If you have questions or complaints about CF in general, you can start a Support ticket, or go to the Advisors Office for Members.

Obviously no. I, as staff, am explaining something to the members so they understand what the rule means. When I post in threads other than this one, I cannot use profanity or punctuation like that.

Thank you for the notification.

One point of clarity. We speak of public figures as in politicians, world leaders, rich and famous.

Does this include public groups as in activist groups. For example there is a group protesting and we post a news article which covers the protest. In the article, not OP, there is a video and the video has some using foul language. Is this permissible?

This should be okay if it is a current news event.
