Those two children were being bullied at school/ or had mental problems or some variation of it. Parents for some reason do want to acknowledge that there little brats are bullies. Parents need to be warning there kids that the bullying has side effects. Especially if there bullying someone with mental problems. It is the cause of many shootings.

The parents of two boys seem to be delusional. It is parents job to know the physical and mental health of there children. I was bullied and I went to a dark place and it could have gone bad...my mom who had two 60-70 hrs a week knew something was wrong...she got me help and she had a sit down with the parents.

My dad lost his eyesight when I was 8. My mom was forced to work mind numbing hours and yet she still found time to know what was going on with me. There is know excuse to not know something is wrong with your kid. You are not entitled to a job that makes you feel complete or happy despite society saying this today. When your a parent you work as many hours as your have two to take of your children. And while it might be mind numbing you need to know if you kids is being bullied or has mental problems or if there bully's themselves and deal with it.

I have heard of bully's driving kids to suicide. If your parent your job is not to be your kids friend, or to be nice. Your job is to feed, clothe, house, and teach your children how to treat others.

My son was a bit of a bully and I found out about it and one the few times I took belt to his butt and wore it out. I took him to the kids house and had him apologize. I went and spoke to teachers and principles and told everyone to inform me if he acted up. I also took some vacation days and sat in school with him for a week. It was enough to clean up his act. Know kids wants there parent sitting with them at school

If you bully someone enough, they will either kill themselves or kill you and others. DUH! The human mind can only practice self control at some point until it loses control. It's our inherent animal nature. Laws cannot prevent it, not even police with their guns drawn. What can only prevent it is don't provoke someone to murder.

But our corrupt and blind (short-sighted) Justice System don't see this. They always blame the one who pulls the trigger, NEVER the one who causes someone to pull the trigger.

They never intend to deal with the bullies so the mass shootings never stops. We have imbeciles running the show who loves bullies.

It's strange that they'll blame a rape victim for what she's wearing, but not the bullies for getting killed in retaliation.

Pick one direction or another, selective judgment like that leads people to take matters into their own hands.

Many children are bullied in our schools every day and have been for generations. The vast majority don't pick up a gun and shoot up their school. Has bullying become a convenient excuse? Might there be other factors in play? What else do you think it might be?

Bullies have existed since Adam and Eve gave birth to Cain in Gen 4.

The "There are now no bullies - so problem solved" solution will not happen until Christ appears in the sky.

Parents and teachers taking bullying "seriously" would be a big start in reducing it.

    And this is acceptable?

The vast majority walk the wide path to destruction, thus this proves nothing.

There are no factors in play, bullying gets worse the more technology kids have. A good way to stop it might be to wait until kids are in an iPhone coma, and snatch their phone, then snap it in half. It's bullying, but since you think bullying is acceptable, it stops worse bullying.

No one took it seriously when I was a kid either. Nobody got shot over it. It's not just bullying. Too easy.

There’s an absence of parental involvement on both sides. I’ve heard numerous recollections of bullying and no mention of parents. In no instance did the victim indicate their parents were aware and took steps to bring it to an end; including changing schools. That baffles me.

Violence is never acceptable. Their response is inexcusable.

The teacher notified administrators, who carried out a search. No firearms were found but the search did reveal a map of the school with marks indicating the locations of interior cameras, Sheriff Carmine Marceno told reporters on Thursday.

An investigation by the sheriff’s department’s youth services criminal investigations division found that the boys were “involved in a plot to carry out a school shooting”.

Mass shootings are generally defined as incidents in which at least four people are shot or killed, not including the person with the gun.

Marceno said the pair were “extensively studying” the Columbine shooting. Investigators found “disturbing evidence” at the boys’ homes, including knives and a gun. They also found evidence the boys were attempting to learn how to purchase firearms on the black market and how to construct pipe bombs. The Guardian

Taking bullying seriously reduces the occurrence just like taking bank robbery seriously reduces the occurrence of it - vs not taking it seriously. Your point that even in the case of taking it seriously - some bullying still happens just like some bank robbing still happens is not disputed.

This is very true. It's deeply embarrassing for them, and if a parent shows that they will do it if necessary, it's never necessary a second time.

I think the combination of mental illness with bullying. But bullying today is not like it was back in the 90s. A female bully made a doctored picture of a girl and put here in sexual situations. The online bullying was so bad the girl killed herself. That was from some years ago. But you can find hundreds of cases since the beggining of the interenet

I was bullied back in 8th grade and in my junior year of high school, 1968-1969.
The first was a group of five boys and I was their target. The second was
a kid who weighed 100lbs more than myself and was a weight-lifter. I saw him beat the crap out of another kid my size, whom he bullied. I decided not to try and fight him. I had no one to turn to as in those days as schools principals didn't get involved. I felt shamed
through most of my years in Jr and Sr high-school days.

Anyway, I'm glad kids have authorities to turn to today.

I had the same experience early on. Then I got into wrestling and weight-lifting. And I'm ashamed to admit that I decided to give my former tormentors a taste of what I went through. Eventually, I learned to forgive them, and ask for their forgiveness.

It is good that kids can turn to adults for help now. And it's good for bullies as much as for their victims. People who have looked at the data have found that life is kinda grim for childhood bullies. Some of them manage to find environments where their habits are tolerated, but many end up in bad circumstances.

Just as victims might grow up to have issues later in life, bullies can also encounter issues. According to Utterly Global, an organization dedicated to anti bullying, children who were bullies in grades six to nine are 60 percent more likely to have a criminal conviction by the age of 24. A bully is also five times more likely than a victim to have a serious criminal record in adulthood. Even bullies who grow up to work in an office instead of entering the judicial system cause problems for others. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, workplace bullying causes $3 billion in lost productivity and a staggering $19 billion loss in employment every year.

Matt DeLisi, sociologist and head of the Iowa State University criminal justice program, writes in an article for the for the ISU sociology department that as bullies age, they are more likely to engage in antisocial behavior. According to DeLisi, adults who were bullies as children are 10 times more likely to lie, six times more likely to fight and almost three times as likely to engage in harassment than adults who were not bullies. “Bullies are 11 times more likely to have had conduct disorder than non-bullies. That giant fact shows you that bullies are antisocial anyway. When you get into personality disorders, you’ll see that in anti-social personalities there is almost an eight times difference,” wrote DeLisi.

You made the post that they pick on what a rape victim was wearing. They don't do that today.

I pointed out how easy it is for a women to claim they were raped and get attention, whether true or false.
