While looking through Dr Dino,s FAQ section, I came across this:
http://www.drdino.com/cse.asp?pg=faq&specific=29

Its about how fresh water animals survived the flood (lets ignore the part where the flood should have killed all salt water animals :) )

In it he says:
Many animals have adapted to the slow increase in salinity over the last 4400 years. We now have fresh water crocodiles and salt water crocodiles that are different species but probably had a common ancestor. This is not evolution. It is only variation.

(ignore the bad science)

My question to scientists is are salt water Crocodiles and Fresh water crocodiles different species?

If they are, didnt he just say that macro evolution exists?

But isnt speciation, the evolution of one species into another that cant successfully mate, eqivilant to macro evolution?

Since one species evolved into a different species that is different from the original and that god didnt actually make?

Hovind accepts speciation. What he doesn't accept is evolution from one "kind" to another "kind". But he never bothers to define "kind" in a meaningful manner, nor explain why such a level of evolution would be impossible.

In terms of biology, yes, speciation is macroevolution. However, Hovind redefines scientific terms at will, solely so he can strike down the parts he doesn't agree with.

Yep.  As you noted in a later post, species is all there are in nature. They are the only biological reality. Other groupings -- higher taxa -- are simply groups of species. So once you admit speciation, you are done.  You are an evolutionist.

The dodge into "kinds" really isn't talking creationism anymore, but is trying to find a "gap" to insert God into for the atheism vs theism debate.

Well, "kinds" are only species when it's convenient. Otherwise they're genera or families or whatever it takes to redefine established transitions as microevolution. You have to start with the premise that macroevolution between "kinds" doesn't occur and then sort of work back to how that affects the definition of "kinds."

Bit like Humpty Dumpty really.

The fun thing though, is that he doesnt say kinds in the quote, he specifically says Species. :D

Yes. Good point. Apparently he forgot that Darwin's book was entitled On the Origin of the Species. So Hovind has just admitted that Darwin was right -- new speces arise from old.

Weboffin, as I said, this shows that Hovind really isn't discussing creationism vs evolution -- because he just admitted evolution -- but rather atheism vs theism. With evolution mistakenly cast as atheism and creationism mistakenly cast as theism.
