I was reading this morning and thought this passage would help. Jeremiah also had a lot of issues to deal with and was asking God some key questions like do you really love us and will this actually get any better. So I found that it is awesome that he could say this even in the midst of war, poverty and starvation. To be able to say this even when life seems impossible and God isn't listening to your prayers is a measure of a dedicated man of the Lord. I am hoping one day they would be able to say this of me (though I would prefer to be a dedicated woman of the Lord :D)

    Lamentations 3:21-33

21 Yet this I call to mind
    and therefore I have hope:

22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.

    23 They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

    24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
    to the one who seeks him;

26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.

27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke
    while he is young.

28 Let him sit alone in silence,
for the LORD has laid it on him.

29 Let him bury his face in the dust—
    there may yet be hope.

30 Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him,
and let him be filled with disgrace.

31 For men are not cast off
    by the Lord forever.

32 Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,
so great is his unfailing love.
33 For he does not willingly bring affliction
or grief to the children of men.

That is awesome John. You are right. Sometimes it is hard to let go and rest in the knowledge that God will deliver you. Not only will God deliver you, but the pain that you once felt will be gone and the joy that comes will wash away the hurt.

It would be nice if God kept His word, but I have great doubts and do not really trust him to do so. I know God is beyond mighty, but that is part of my mistrust. If God had no power I would not be so upset when He does nothing to deliver me. But I know He has the power to save me with just one word. All God has to do is speak and it will be. I want to know why He just ignores my pleas and my needs.

What is upsetting is that God has in the past prompted me to pray. And so with great faith and energy I prayed as God lead me. But nothing has changed for the better in this matter. I am not saying God has not acted in my life, but He has not answered those prayers He lead me to pray. Why should I trust Him? There is no evidence I can point to that says God is faithful to me at least not in this important matter. I can see God bless other people and wonder why not me. Sometimes even through me people are blessed and encouraged. But when I call out to God and share with Him the longings of my heart, He ignores me. What is the point of me serving God? I don't have an answer that really satisfies me.

I know God has done some impressive things, and I will give Him all the glory for that. Yet it is incomplete without God's provision for my heart. I need to see that soon. I cannot fight the battle against unbelief and temptation forever. I am weary and losing ground. If God does not come through soon I will fall.

I don't know what to say Silentpoet. I have been battling my own doubts of late and the pain I feel only seems to increase. If I was to be honest, not a day goes past when I don't feel the desire to quit it all.

So I am truely sorry that you feel this way. I wish there was a way I could help you but all I can do is remember you in my prayers. I pray that God will bless you and deliver you soon.

I do wish I could share honest words of joy and great praise from the depths of my heart. But it just ain't there.

I also wish my honest expressions of pain would not add to your burdens. I am sorry for that reason.

I don't know if there really are any answers in the here and now for our suffering. We serve God willingly, but at least in my case not joyfully. I have been waiting a long while for God's promised abundance. Maybe I am not perfect, but I believe I deserve that. I believe God owes me, not because of anything I am or have done, but because He promised it. Both in very specific terms to me and also in the general promises made to all believers. Jesus said He came to give us abundant life. The only thing I have abundantly is sorrow. I am waiting on and seeking that abundance.

Tony Robbins said it is not that we are looking for a problem free life, instead we are looking for a better class of problems. I am aware that marriage and relationships are not free from problems, but it has to be a better class of problem. And besides you have someone along side you for support. Part of the problem of being single is you are cut off from that intimate support when you need it the most.

It is odd that I get so discouraged, when one of my gifts is encouraging others. It is like I have a pitcher I can pour from, but not a cup I can drink from.

I will be glad when this particular struggle is behind me. But only God can deliver me to that moment.

Silentpoet don't worry so much about my burdens. Yes, my heart does grieve for you but that is only because I do want for you all the blessings the Lord can provide. You do not need to apologise for mourning over your own sorrows for we ar friends. Please know we do care for you as our brother in Christ and only want to encourage you in your daily walk with Him.

My suffering has many answers. Some I don't want to hear. Some I feel that I am unable to overcome on my own. I struggle and wish that I had someone here to hold me accountable. It is hard when I am trying to change and yet my friends, who are mainly non-Christians, feel there is nothing wrong with the life I am living. To them I am just being hard on myself. I know my own mistakes and daily pray for my lack of sound judgement in many areas of my life. It is moments like this where I pray to be married or at least had a like minded friend to accompany through the many trials that life brings. But even in all of this, I experience joy. I love my God and He loves me. Nothing seperates us.

I do find it easier to encourage others than myself. If faced with the same problems that I have I would tell my friends 'do not fear for the Lord your God is near you in every step that you take and He has plans in every setback that you have. In every rejection you face know that He loves you more than anyone else could possibly and He does want you to be happy.' But I struggle when applying such wisdom to my own life.

Even now as I am sitting here writing this I am thinking about how much I measure my life by what the Lord hasn't given me instead of what He has. Why is it so easy to become discouraged? Why is it so easy to hold on to the bad instead of the good? Why is it easier to give up than to continue on boldly in the faith that the Lord God will catch me when I fall?

I am not sure what tomorrow will bring. I pray that it will be the end of both our struggles but if it is not, I thank the Lord for what He has provided and I will rest assured that He will be strength and wisdom.

Silent Poet. There is nothing you or I can do. I know how you feel, even the last few days, i have been low, discouraged and quite despairing of ever mmeeeting someone to suit me, especially as I am 45! Yes even though I have faith God will provide it does not take away the loneliness of my heart. Even though I love the Lord so much and have walked on mounttain with Him it does not make me immune to sorrow. I am the one who is supoosed to encourage and I have a web site yet If I am not tried how will I bless others.
Evie hurts to we all do, but our day will come.
there is nothing we can do but WAIT for the sadness to go and fresh joy come again.
Heaviness, sighing and despare will finlly go.
    Take care John

Romans 5:6 “Just at the right time when we were powerless..”

This sums up Gods power and our weakness. When we were powerless or should it read while NOW we are powerless!

Does this not sum up how we feel? Utterly weak, powerless, despair, without any natural hope of any blessing coming to us.

We are just powerless, to procure a blessing upon our selves. We are powerless to make the hearts desires and dreams come to pass.

We can only fall face down and cry to God for His grace and mercy to fill our lives, and that His compassion will exceed His judgements and the trials in our lives.

We can only but wait for the God of all mercy to reveal to us the greatness of His power to those who suffer and wait upon Him.

I am feeling a little better now. Like the siege has at least in part been lifted. I still don't have answers for my sorrow. I wish I could share great joy. I really do wish I could share that with you my friends. Instead in intimacy I share my sorrows honestly. That is what I have to give that is honestly mine to give and share.

In part my answer was that I am doing the best I can to fight despair and temptation. Maybe I am doing poorly, but it is the best I can do at this moment of my life. I have honestly shared with God my hurt and distrust. And I honestly think He is proud of the fight I am putting up. I just hope He is soon to fulfill His word to me. And when I say soon I mean soon as I understand it. Within days or weeks or possibly a short few months. I don't want to be fighting this same issue when my next birthday rolls around. And I think that is not too much to expect or believe of God for.

Psalm 42:4 “I remember this as I pour out my heart: how I walked with many, leading the festive procession to the house of God, with joyful and thankful shouts”
Psalm 42:5 “Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Saviour and my God”
Psalm 42:6 “I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar”

    DEPRESSION. SIGHING. HEAVY HEART.
How do we cope with it?
David here was one who was full of praise and joy and now things had swung around, and his emotions were low.
    How did he cope?
First he was in the D mode and he sat and mused upon his sad heart, and grieved at his sadness and inner despond.
Then he begins to look up and say “I will hope in God” and have confidence that he would soon praise God with a joyful heart.

He then sat down and recounted all the past blessings from the times on Hermon and Mizar and he gave thanks and worshipped God.
The best start of the cure for D is give thanks for all the past blessings. Worship God and hope in His mercy.

Matthew 9:21 “She said to herself, "If only I touch his cloak, I will get well." Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, my daughter! Your faith has made you well." At that very moment the woman became well”
How easily I could say the same things, “If only I were alive when Jesus were around, I would go to Him and fall face down and say “Lord I need a dear friends and spouse” or “I need a job” or “I need healing” and right away I would be blest!

Many times in the past I have longed that Jesus were here now so I could ask.

The one thing that we can say is “your faith has made you well” we can have faith but the exact time of the blessing is in the Lords hands.

Many of you may have a DREAM something that’s seems so impossible and far off. Some thing that you so DEEPLY LONG for, something that you YEARN for from the deepest bottom of your heart.

God is our DREAM MAKER for many dreams that we do have are actually Inspired by Him, but we often do not realise it and so never really get around to asking God about this dream.

The dreams we have may be good and right but the timing may not always be right for its fulfilment. Moses had a dream of seeing "Gods people" set free; but he went about fulfilling that dream the wrong and not in Gods time (resulted in murder)
Joseph had literal dreams but his dreams were not to be fulfilled for many years.
The important thing about a dream is that if its so important to you; then DONT GIVE up on it and continually pray about it.

I have a dream for the church I serve at, it seems impossible but I yearn too much to give up. I have a dream of being close to a dear spouse one day I yearn for it, and so I don not give up on this dream either, although I must wait.

The sufferings we go through are ALL SPAM filtered by God. The Enemy fires loads of potentail junk at us and God filters it all out and ONLY allows the things to hit us that will. 1. Bring Him glory, 2. Bring us closer to Him, 3. Help us to grow in love for Him/. 4. Help us to trust him more and so on.
Every trial has a time limit and will end as suddenly as it started. Thank you to such a loving and Kind God.

A few thoughts: About 3 and 4 above to me I will really only trust and love God when He does end my trials. At least wholeheartedly. Because I just don't have complete love or trust in me until I know for sure God has been trustworthy to me. I know this is a failing on my part not God's, but that is the way it is. I am at times growing in trust and love, but there is always a certain something lacking. But I am hopeful that God will come through soon as I understand it.

Another unrelated thought about encouragement is to look for things in the world only God can do. I posted a story in the positive news section of this board about a baby being born. His mother was on the birth control pill and she had an abortion. Now against those odds, it surely is God at work. We should keep our eyes open for miracles. If we know God is at work then maybe we can believe He is at work in our lives.

The Best Antidote For Feeling Unhappy
I liken God and ALL HIS LOVE and goodness as being immersed completely in water.
    Hiya again,
What is the best antidote for feeling unhappy with not having a dear special companion? 0r even friends?
Well I think that is none else than God Himself. :)
You see from God we have peace, joy, happiness, love, rest, comfort, bliss etc.
The Lord has shown me a picture of how we grow more content with Him as we live our lives the best we can while we wait for His promises to be fulfilled. It may not be a spouse, there are many things that we wait for, perhaps conversion of a close friend.
In Ezekiel we read a portion of how he first walked in the water, then it was up to his waist and finally it was so deep he swam in it.
Although the illustration I believe is to do with the growth of Gods Kingdom, it is a great picture of how Christian lives are.
You see, I liken God and ALL HIS LOVE and goodness as being immersed completely in water.
1st. We are converted, and we paddle we experience God in a small way, but a real way.
2nd. We grow more and we are up to our waist with our experience of God.
3rd. We swim, for we grow still further, and it is here that we really begin to experience Gods love and comfort in such a way that it DISPELLS all sadness, whether the pain of having no spouse, or real friends or something else.
4th. At times we can actually go UNDER the water. When we do that we become totally overwhelmed by the water ( totally overwhelmed by Gods love) at such times NO pain can touch us, NO worry can afflict, NO heart ache can trouble us, I know because Ive proved it.
But of course we cannot stay under the water, we have to come back to real life, work, pressures etc.

But the more we can get alone and be immersed, then I believe the happier we will be now and in marriage.
    Bless you all JOHN

Thoughts for those times when God doesnt say a word to encourage us.

Mat 15:22. “And a woman of Canaan came out from those parts, crying and saying, Have pity on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is greatly troubled with an unclean spirit.
But he gave her no answer. And his disciples came and said to him, Send her away, for she is crying after us”

To quote and answer a question And what about when you ask and ask, but hear only silence?
That’s me "ask and ask" and get silence. Silence that makes you feel HURT and TEMPTED to curse God and give up on Him. Silence, and deep silence when God seems unloving, unfair, unjust, unmerciful as tears drop down on the for and your heart breaks. Hurt when you see others being blest by God and He turns His back on you it seems, Hurt when God seems to have put a mark on you and seems to put you through every sadness possible. I know what hurt is. But God allows these agonising silences to mature our faith and trust in His PROMISES. You see when the widow pleaded to Jesus for her child, Jesus met her with SILENCE, she felt rejected hurt and like giving up. She may have said "I though this Jesus was Kind etc" But you know what she did? She PERSISTED and didn’t give up she KNEW what God could do and would do even In the face of rejection. Jesus then turned and blest her.

God will be silent at times as He has to me, for year upon year NO ANSWER not for lack of faith nor a sinful life but TIMING, His timing must be right His will must be first His Kingdom must come first. Our feeble tarnished dull gold souls must be polished by the furnace of suffering, waiting and testing.

Don’t give up on what you know will happen. Don’t give up on the promises He has made to you, when silence comes it will pass by and blessing will come again as for me it has.

Every sorrow you suffer will make your love and experience of God the more heavenly
    Bless you John

Thank you John for sharing this.

Last night I was over it. I begged God to finally give me some answers. Every day I keep coming acrossed closed doors. It seems that I will get so far in a certain direction and then find that it is not to be. I am tired and frustrated because it feels like God keeps leading me in the wrong direction. I have so many decisions to make and not enough information to make them. Last night I wept. My heart broke as all of the answers I needed seemed to be so far away. They still seem to be...

Today I still feel crushed. I am not sure what to do. My only hope is that somewhere in amongst all this mess (which I call my life at the moment) my God is with me. My only hope is Him right now. There is nothing more I can do.
