  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone. I'm currently my father's sponsor for RCIA and at one of the meetings the priest said something about a 3 fold Gospel or something similar. I wanted to remember exactly what he said but I can't. I went back and looked over all of the writings that have been given out but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I know one of the things was scripture and I think the other two where Tradition but separated into two groups but I can't remember so I could be wrong about that. :help:

Hi there.

I have done some snooping around, but could not find anything firm on this. I found various references, like the ones below, but nothing conrete. I also searched the Catechism online, and foind no hits.

Is it possible the priest was using it as a reference? I think the best course would be for you to phone the priest and ask him about it. Just because it's so unclear.

Here are the quotes I mentioned:

"We believe that [blank] School, as a Catholic school, shares in the three-fold mission of Jesus Christ - to proclaim the gospel message, to foster community, and to serve humankind."

"that each of us through our Baptism and Confirmation shares in the three-fold ministry of Jesus as Priest, Prophet and King.that each of us through our Baptism and Confirmation shares in the three-fold ministry of Jesus as Priest, Prophet and King."

Hope it helps!

Peace in Christ!

No sweat,sorry I wasn't any more help.

So, you are sponsoring your dad? Is he a convert? Nice one! I'd love to see my Dad convert to Catholocism.

:)

Peace in Christ

Yeah he likes the way my faith has changed my life so after 16 years with my mom he's decided to join up. I guess St. Francis was right.

Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.

I don't know exactly what you are talking about, but I am a college student and just had a semester in theology. At one point we touched on where we get our theological references and there are three, including Scripture and tradition, so it may be what he was talking about. The third way was through contemporary culture, meaning trying to fit the Bible to relate in the world and culture of today. This obviously isn't very credible because of the problems that can arise, but nonetheless, is the third reference.

Did he say three-fold godhead? Or was he referring to the synoptic gospels?

Now it was more like the good news being three fold. we have books that are called gospels but The Gospel is something more.
