Well, he is now living in public housing.

This is the Blue Room. Too fussy and formal to my taste, though not a "dump."

And here's Donald and Melania's triplex in Trump Tower. In horrible taste. This is way over-the-top even for Louis XIV.

Trump's taste trends toward 18th century Viennese brothels.

Trump claims to have never said it. But so long as the reporter is correct in having multiple witnesses to it, I got to say it sounds right.
I read that one of the repairs being done is where water leaked to the ceiling below. Maybe it is those kinds of things he is referring to?

Donald Trump is a perfect example of a man who has money, and accomplishments, but has no class. It's hard to describe what class is. It comes across in the way a person speaks, in his manners, and conduct, and demeanor. You know it when you see it. By contrast, Pres. Obama--whatever his faults--had class. He was always cool, composed, and self-assured. Never crass or boorish. And a model family man. You may have hated his politics, but as a person, he projected an image of civility and refinement. Class isn't absolutely necessary to do a decent job as President (i.e., Bill Clinton.) But is it too much to ask that our President at least try to act like a gentleman?

Of course the difference in likening it to "prison" is not that the building is good or bad, it is more the idea that they don't really have the freedom to leave on their own, much less on the spur of the moment, and when they do leave they are escorted by armed "guards." By contrast, Trump was talking about the physical building being a "dump."

Trump's taste in interior design reminds me of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, best known to Americans for Disney copying his Neuschwanstein castle in their Disney theme parks. Of course, Neuschwanstein was never actually completed, at least the interior, so doesn't measure up to Trump's standard.

Instead, you need to look to Linderhof Palace, the one Ludwig II actually completed. It looks like the type of place Trump would build, if he were to rebuild the White House.

What I find a bit ironic is that GOP types hate Obama soooo much that they denigrate the above attributes you talk about. They use those attributes as a "criticism" of Obama and because Trump is the opposite of those things, rudeness, crassness, lying... are all considered virtues because "he's telling it like it is" or "he shoots straight from the hip..." yada yada yada

I remember working with a guy who was similar to Trump. He was all about appearances and he had mastered the art of "Sounding" like he knew what he was talking about and "appearing" busy and hard working but the reality was he knew nothing and did nothing.

We'd have a meeting in which there was a problem. He would then get the floor and talk talk talk and he'd describe the problem in such a way that it sounded like he was pitching a solution when the reality was he was not he was just cleverly rephrasing the problem.... Amazing thing though was people thought he was actually contributing.

IF a conman and a clown had a baby it would be Trump...

How about U.S. Grant? All the 'classy' generals before him were flops on the battlefield.

"Jackie (Kennedy), American to the core, was also an ardent Francophile. Dismayed at the uncared-for sight she beheld when her predecessors vacated the premises, she called for help. Enter the celebrated French interior designer Stéphane Boudin, a master of the grand and the opulent, the star of the renowned Paris decorating firm Jansen."

Actually I would think living in the white house would be very stressful (that having more to do with the duties as the president) despite the amazing architecture.

$1.75 million! How dare he! What waste!

Seriously though it is not cheap to redecorate and maintain buildings on the scale of the whitehouse so it would be churlish to point fingers.

Besides those illegal immigrant decorators need the work. ^_^

Who would want to live in any of these places?
