‘Remarkable’: DOJ Inspector General Slams Trump For Firing Intelligence Community Inspector General
Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael Horowitz issued an unqualified rebuke of his boss, President Donald Trump, in an official statement released early Saturday morning.

Horowitz’s missive, put out on official U.S. government stationary, is an unprecedented defense of his recently-fired colleague, now-former intelligence community inspector general Michael Atkinson, who oversaw the whistleblower complaint that eventually led to the the 45th president’s historic impeachment late last year.

TLDR part

National security attorney Bradley P. Moss told Law&Crime that the firing was clear-cut political revenge.

“Atkinson’s firing was pure and naked retaliation for the crime of political betrayal: the president expects his appointees to put his interests before the law, and to cover up his misdeeds at all costs,” he said.

The same could be said about relieving the captain of the aircraft carrier of his command because he was advocated for the lives of the 100's of COVIR-19 cases on board - he was given a hero's sendoff by his crew as he walked down the plank for the last time!

True to form, this President supported the Navy's decision because the captain , like the Intelligence Inspector General, did the right thing for the right reason - apparently those in positions of authority interpret taking a principled stand as a threat that requires an example to be set as a warning for others!

Finding time in the middle of a pandemic to settle political scores merely reinforces the perception that it isn't in this President's character to get beyond his personal demons - its time to invoke the 25th Amendment, Section 4!

They did present it though as the captain passing the chain of command and leaking the letter whatever unintentionally or not through unsecured communications.

Perhaps the guy just decided to move from military to politics and figured this would be a memorable way to go.

Given the ovation that he received going down the gangplank for the last time, the ship's crew appeared openly defiant of the Navy's decision to replace their captain!

This decision by the Navy has created a political "firestorm" and a major morale problem that, like the pandemic, will spread to other ships if more concern for the welfare of crew members dealing with COVID-19 isn't forthcoming!

Interesting

Trump claimed the fact that the constitution gives him the right to hire/fire inspector generals purely based on his own subject sense of "having confident" or not in the person holding office.

“As is the case with regard to other positions where I, as president, have the power of appointment, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, it is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as inspectors general,” Trump wrote. “That is no longer the case with regard to this inspector general.”

Horowitz says in essence "IF I WERE President I would still have confidence in Atkinson"

“Inspector General Atkinson is known throughout the Inspector General community for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the rule of law and independent oversight,” Horowitz’s statement begins. “This includes his actions in handling the Ukraine whistleblower complaint, which the then Acting Director of National Intelligence stated in congressional testimony was done ‘by the book’ and consistent with the law.”

As "interesting" as that is to know what Horowitz would do differently IF HE were president... it is merely a "data point"

Don't you think that Trump is telling DOJ/Barr to suspend or give judges authority to suspend Habeas Corpus? That would be consistent with Trump's own ruling "policy". And giving that power to judges would give Trump deniability later on.?
We dont have enough info to make such a judgment.
