CHAMBLEE, Ga. Not many notice when the SUVs arrive. Around 5 a.m., when the immigration agents pull into the parking lot of the Chamblee Heights apartments, 16 miles from downtown Atlanta, only one person is on the lookout. Cristina Monteros catches sight of the cars with the telltale tinted windows from her small apartment near the front, where she runs a day care, and calls her downstairs neighbor: ICE is here.

'Tis good to know that ICE is on the job.

Not sure why anyone would be hiding(?)

Unless of course they've done something "illegal".

Hmmmmmmm.......

Lax enforcement in previous years ultimately led to this.

Unfortunately, much longer than Obama or Bush II. Reagan and Bush (1989 Bush) really got that immigration confusion kick-started.

The signals were clear as usual for America: there was a significant uncanny valley for Mexicans, and brown-looking people. So, they knew they weren't welcome. Then, they were encouraged to come to the States. Now that they are here and have established a life (i.e. a generation has passed,) they are casualties of the next political paradigm shift.

.
Joseph and his family ended up in Egypt as strangers because of his jealous brothers' sins/evil-deeds. Joseph was a legal immigrant brought into Egypt as a slave. Joseph's family was legal immigrants who were welcomed by the Egyptian Pharoah/King during a famine. They were not unwelcomed illegal immigrants.
... Anyway, the Jews did not stay permanently in Egypt.

So, it is alright for the US government to welcome and give temporary work permits to poor illegal immigrants from Hispania but not Amnesty or permanent US citizenship.

The mostly Catholic Hispania need to do better for their people, eg curb over-population.

Speaking from a huge distance, there seems to be little possibility of the US ever finding common ground on this issue.

One of the people mentioned in the news story was "... a 48-year-old school maintenance supervisor named David Martinez-Samano, who had a pair of felony convictions for domestic violence from 1996 and 1997, plus a rape charge that a plea bargain reduced to a lesser charge. He had served time in prison and had been deported to Mexico twice."

There seems to be no universal consensus that he should be deported. Conversely, with those who came to the US illegally as infants, there seems to be no universal consensus that they should stay.

Given no consensus to change anything, that probably means that the status quo will remain for the foreseeable future.

I also note that, in spite of all this "surge" talk, that ICE deportations do not actually seem to have risen under Trump (2017 numbers seem to be lower than 2016).

Who knows what kind of people she is trying to hide? Obviously up to no good if they are afraid of the police, that’s for sure.

Oportunidades (English: Opportunities) (now rebranded as Prospera) is a government social assistance (welfare) program in Mexico founded in 2002, based on a previous program called Progresa, created in 1997.[1] It is designed to target poverty by providing cash payments to families in exchange for regular school attendance, health clinic visits, and nutrition support.[2] Oportunidades is credited with decreasing poverty and improving health and educational attainment in regions where it has been deployed.

...Personally, I even know Americans who have gone to Mexico for work, such as rebuilding infastructure after the most recent earthquake and hurricane. There is work there.

Mexico has the 16th largest economy in the world. It's not like returning to hell...

And the US has the 1st largest economy in the world. But who would know if pictures are cherry picked. All of Mexico is not such a paradise.

They were legally amongst the Israelites, and if they chose to stay, to assimilate. They were not "invaders"/trespassers. Nor did they "insult" their host country or despise it.

God did not take kindly to "trespassers".

Are you familiar with those verses too?
