Walz was fine with retail businesses but specifically went after churches.
And for the most part the churches went along. They just closed down. Our archbishop agreed to it and all the parishes closed. It was very stark. It took months for the Catholic Church in Minnesota to gather up the nerve to stand up to Walz. I had moved by then and got to go to mass again in my new state. Sure they had every other aisle roped off but it wasn’t a lock out.

Walz belongs to the Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Here is what we know about his church ...

Tim Walz’s Church Doesn’t Like To Call God ‘Him,’ Supports Reparations And Pride Parades

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz attends a church that preaches beliefs related to gender, race and sexuality that many Christian denominations strongly oppose.

Walz, who is the governor of Minnesota, identified Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul as his parish during a 2020 briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials published by Pilgrim Lutheran Church instruct parishioners not to refer to God using male pronouns, push congregants to support reparation funds, encourage them to celebrate Ramadan and include a modified gender-neutral version of the Lord’s Prayer, among other liberal practices.

Pilgrim Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a mainline protestant denomination that has been criticized by some conservative Christians for ordaining transgender and lesbian bishops as well as for its embrace of LGBT ideology.

“The ELCA is, broadly speaking, a liberal American mainline Protestant denomination,” Jonah Wendt, a policy adviser for Mike Pence’s Advancing American Freedom and a member of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “They reject the inerrancy of scripture, ordain women to the pastoral office [and] hold what many would believe to be unbiblical views on abortion and homosexual behavior.”

Pilgrim Lutheran Church in 2015 approved “guidelines for language in worship” wherein the congregation asserted that “a patriarchal culture gave birth to the writing of scripture and the selection of the canon” and, to rectify the purported injustice, committed to using gender-neutral language to describe God. Members of the church, for instance, are encouraged to “choose non-anthropomorphic language” like “hen” or “baker” to refer to God, and urged “not to limit these by following them with male or female pronouns.”

The guidelines instruct parishioners to refer to God using titles that signal actions but don’t imply gender, like “advocate” or “healer.” Walz’s church also uses a modified version of the Lord’s Prayer, beginning with “Our Guardian, Our Mother, Our Father in heaven” instead of the traditional “Our Father who art in heaven.”

Nixon was a Quaker.
Clinton is a Baptist.
Biden is a Roman Catholic.

Church membership is one thing; following Christ is another.
That's true. Trump is all over the place and doesn't even try to act Christian. That is different than being anti-christianity. There is nothing about Walz that suggests that he is against religion.

That would be a good question for some Lutherans to respond to. Waltz’ parents were Catholic. He’s Lutheran.
Looked it up. Walz is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a denomination that dates back to 1988. Saw some claims about the ELCA that I haven't confirmed or refuted. However, I did find this on The Christian Post: A Lutheran denomination becomes radically liberal. The article dates back to 2020.

I went to high school in that neighborhood. My daughter had an apartment near there for a year. My son went to college in that neighborhood too. So I have driven by but never found it notable. It’s not that terribly far from the governor’s mansion on Summit Ave.

I mentioned somewhere that his parents were (or are if they are still alive) Catholics. I have no idea what happened for him to end up this kind of Lutheran.

His religiosity might be even a few steps to the left from not very Catholic Joe Biden.

It does make one wonder, doesn't it?
But I have seen children from very committed Christian families, go radically progressive.
... and their parents are heartbroken. Absolutely heartbroken.

It's so unfortunate, how Minnesota has deteriorated. You must be very thankful to be out of there!

My being ready to leave started the day the legislature approved gay marriage, the very first state to do that. In Iowa a bunch of elected Supreme Court judges ruled in favor of that earlier on, but those judges got voted out in the next election. Minnesota never came back to any sanity. Then came Covid and the draconian rule and the riots leading to the capture of the police precinct in Minneapolis. Portland was a mess, but Minneapolis was so much closer to home. I knew the places that burned. It was such a relief to leave.

In my honest opinion, I think that the only people who can truly be really happy living in Minnesota are mostly those whom are progressive left wing liberals.

There are two Minnesotas. The liberal urban area and the rural areas. One area has Loons, those wonderful sounding birds. The other area has loony people that do not sound at all wonderful. Walz would never be able to win again in his old congressional district. He has become far too progressive for them.

I used to live in Minnesota from 2001 to 2016, and was more of a moderate (not far-left) progressive back then in full support of Obama, though Romney seemed cool also, and was happy living there. In Wisconsin, I have become more centrist (cos the times are changing around the world, and that woke Olympics crud solidified my centrism), and I am happy cos I have gotten into the Bible more.

As a former Minnesotan I feel I have been spared the last for years by not being in Minnesota.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on this because nothing could make me vote for Trump/Vance.

@chevyontheriver is not voting for Trump. He will be voting for Peter Sonski (a pro-environment, pro-life Christian), as he told me about Sonski a few months ago.

Yep. @chevyontheriver is a good guy, and he would never vote for for Donald. :) [STAFF EDIT]
Trump is not a fascist.
You've been listening and reading too much fake news.

This thread is NOT about Donald Trump. It is about Tim Walz.
So please don't take this thread into a discussion about Donald Trump.
As the OP of the thread, I have the right to ask you to stay on topic.
Please.

Ok. While I don’t agree with Harris/Walz on everything I’ll be voting for them unless I think there‘s a chance somebody else I agree with has a chance of winning.

Happy for you! Not everyone gets to move from bad places.

I hope more of America will not turn into Minnesota, or San Francisco, one day ...

With any illness you quarantine sick people. Not the healthy person.
Ah - but with a sneaky, ever-changing bug like Covid - how do you know who is sick?
With this single statement - you have made your opinion here completely irrelevant.

The economic impact of COVID was worse than the disease because of the malfeasance of governance at the time, all over this country
Wow - how many people do you want to sacrifice to the god of mammon? Trump handled the pandemic so badly that the USA is probably the worst performing first world nation! His denial of it drove the alt-right into crazy, frenzied science denying feats of stupidity.
On a death per capita basis - the USA is the 17th worst country in the world!
Probably the worst OECD nation!

Australia had harder lockdowns - and we're generally a more compliant society - a bit more comfortable with 'big government' intruding into our lives. We're 114th on that list. Go figure.

Any governor who didn't observe common sense during COVID
Yeah - nah. We have a different idea of common sense.
