Since when did these free market capitalist companies start thinking they are allowed to make business decisions that the conservatives don't like? It's an outrage, and this one example of some apple app is definitely entirely worthy of an entire thread in a forum about American Politics, given how little of interest is happening in that area at the moment.

‘Alt-right’ Pepe the Frog game banned from Apple App store

It's going to backfire on them.

This comment from the linked article demonstrates what people perceive the motivation for Apple's decision: "Apple has made it clear that its target audience is special snowflakes who cannot survive outside of their safe spaces."

One of the things distinguishes the alt-right from the traditional American right is that free market economic theory is not a part of its ideology. They know big business is not their friend...

...a bit surprising, when you think about it, that they're afraid of a cartoon frog.

Usually, with things like this, my first thought is "let's see if they have a point". And (sometimes) someone might have a reasonable point, although the "ban" is an overreaction.
This one is just... what? Wait... what?

Let me get this straight: You think Apple's bottom line is going to suffer because they banned some frog app.

You actually believe that will happen? You actually believe anyone cares about this at all beyond the 5 people that have posted in this thread?

That frog is a copyrighted character by cartoon artist.. *looks up on google* Matt Furie. If he didn't condone this app, it is an infringed on copyright law. That alone seems like enough reason for banning the app.

Did I say that Apple would suffer financially because of this?

What is their goal in banning the app? Why did they do what they did? They will fail at that goal because their actions will only make Pepe more popular, not less. And, that's how it will backfire on them.

Backfire: To produce an unexpected, undesired result.

Lastly, you obviously care more than most.

Yep. However, Apple is known for being overly sensitive to stuff. They once pulled a Civil War game because it had the Confederate flag. It wasn't pro-Confederacy mind you, it just had the flag in the game.

In the absence of previous clarification that was a reasonable interpretation of the term "backfire"

What is their goal in banning the app?

To not annoy a small segment of the US population and avoid controversy.

Why did they do what they did?

To not annoy a small segment of the US population and avoid controversy.

They will fail at that goal because their actions will only make Pepe more popular, not less. And, that's how it will backfire on them.

They will instead succeed marvelously at their goal because they could not give a tinker's cuss about the popularity of the frog, it had nothing to do with why they banned it.

Lastly, you obviously care more than most.

Well I was one of the posters in the thread, so....

You obviously don't understand the life span of an internet meme.
